The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced the commencement of free visa issuance for all registered participants of the Diaspora Summit 2025, fulfilling a pledge earlier made by the Minister during the media launch of the event.
The Summit, scheduled for December 19–20, 2025, at the Accra International Conference Centre (AICC), is expected to bring together Africans and people of African descent from across the world to deepen collaboration, strengthen connections, and advance shared development goals.
In a public announcement issued in Accra, the Ministry stated that prospective participants may now visit the nearest Ghanaian Embassy, High Commission, or Consulate in their country of residence to obtain the complimentary visa prior to their travel.
The Ministry emphasized that this gesture reflects Ghana’s commitment to Pan-African solidarity and the desire to ensure broad participation in a forum designed to “foster cooperation and forge enduring partnerships for the pursuit of our common good.”
The decision to offer free visas was first revealed by the Minister for Foreign Affairs during the official media launch of the Summit. The Ministry’s latest update confirms that arrangements for visa issuance have been finalized, and participants are encouraged to begin their processing as soon as possible.
Registration for the Summit remains open until Monday, December 8, 2025, via the official portal at www.diasporasummitghana.org. According to the Ministry, the free visa initiative is part of a broader effort to reduce financial and administrative barriers that often discourage diaspora engagement.

By waiving visa fees for participants, Ghana is signalling its readiness to welcome the global African community and reaffirming its role as a central hub for Pan-African dialogue and cooperation.
The Ministry described the Summit as an opportunity to unite voices from the continent and diaspora to explore strategic partnerships in investment, culture, innovation, education, and sustainable development.
Free Visa Under Reciprocal Visa Waiver Agreements
The announcement also clarified that citizens of several countries will not require visas at all to travel to Ghana, due to existing reciprocal Visa Waiver Agreements. For nationals of these countries, entry into Ghana is visa-free regardless of the Summit.
The Ministry lists Barbados, Bahamas, Dominica, Mauritius, Seychelles, South Africa, Kenya, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique, Tanzania, Trinidad and Tobago, Singapore, São Tomé and Príncipe, Uganda, Zimbabwe, Jamaica, Rwanda, Morocco, Guyana, St. Vincent and the Grenadines, Malawi, and Grenada as countries whose citizens holding ordinary passports may enter Ghana without visas.
In addition, holders of Diplomatic, Official, or Service passports from countries such as Brazil, Colombia, China, Cuba, Germany, Sudan, Türkiye, Namibia, Hungary, Iran, India, Equatorial Guinea, St. Kitts and Nevis, Suriname, Venezuela, Malta, and the United Arab Emirates are also exempt from visa requirements under existing bilateral arrangements.

The Ministry’s communication reiterated that all registered participants who do not fall within these visa-exempt categories must complete their visa processing at a Ghana Mission abroad before travelling. It further urged participants not to delay and to make use of the visa facilitation services provided specifically for the Summit.
As preparations for the Diaspora Summit intensify, the Ministry noted that interest continues to grow among diaspora communities in North America, Europe, the Caribbean, Latin America, and across Africa.
Expanding Engagement
The Summit is anticipated to build on Ghana’s expanding engagement with its diaspora, following earlier landmark initiatives such as the Year of Return in 2019 and the Beyond the Return campaign.
These efforts have sought to strengthen historical, cultural, and economic bonds while positioning Ghana as a gateway for Africans in the diaspora seeking to reconnect with the continent. The Summit is expected to attract high-level governmental delegations, private sector leaders, cultural ambassadors, academics, and civil society groups.
Discussions are likely to explore investment opportunities, diaspora financing models, the role of technology and innovation in Africa’s development, cultural heritage preservation, and improved mobility and collaboration among Africans globally.
Beyond policy dialogue, the event aims to provide networking opportunities, showcase Ghana’s investment climate, and celebrate the continent’s cultural diversity.

In its announcement, the Ministry encouraged participants to reach out for assistance where needed. “For further inquiries, please visit the official Summit website at www.diasporasummitghana.org or contact the Ministry via ipab@mfa.gov.gh or through +233 240 913 284 or +233 240 793 072,” the statement said.
The Ministry also extended appreciation to media houses for amplifying information about the Summit and encouraged continued publicity to ensure strong participation.
As Ghana positions itself as a global convening point for African unity and engagement, the free visa initiative underscores its commitment to inclusivity and collaboration in shaping shared futures across the African world.
With less than a month to go before the Summit, the Ministry said it looks forward to welcoming participants to Accra and stands ready to facilitate their smooth entry into the country.
