The National Democratic Congress (NDC) has extended Christmas and New Year greetings to Ghanaians at home and abroad, using the festive season to reaffirm its commitment to the mandate entrusted to it one year ago.

In a statement issued from its national secretariat in Accra on December 24, 2025, the governing party reflected on the values of the season while highlighting its record in office and outlining priorities for the year ahead.

Signed by the party’s General Secretary, Hon. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, the statement situates the Christmas celebration within a broader moment of national reflection, urging citizens to embrace “compassion, sacrifice, peace, and gratitude” as Christians commemorate the birth of Jesus Christ.

According to the NDC, these values are not only spiritual but also central to the work of governance and public service, particularly at a time when the country continues to navigate economic recovery and institutional reform.

“This festive period also marks one year since Ghanaians entrusted the NDC with the mandate to govern. The party fully acknowledges this responsibility and remains resolute in translating its vision into tangible improvements in the lives of the people.”

Over the past year, the NDC government said it has pursued deliberate policies aimed at restoring public confidence in governance, stabilising the economy, and laying the foundation for sustainable growth.

The party pointed to efforts to prioritise accountability and social protection while steering the country away from instability inherited at the start of its administration.

Though the statement did not enumerate specific programmes, it framed the government’s first year as one focused on resetting the fundamentals of governance and rebuilding trust between the state and citizens.

The NDC’s message reflects a broader narrative the party has consistently advanced since returning to office: that Ghana’s challenges require disciplined leadership, long-term planning, and inclusive growth.

According to the statement, stabilising the economy has gone hand in hand with protecting vulnerable groups and strengthening public institutions, an approach the party says will remain central in the coming year.

Unwavering Commitment to Deliver Mandate: Economic Boom and Job Creation

Looking ahead to 2026, the NDC reaffirmed what it described as its “unwavering commitment to delivering fully on its mandate.” The party outlined key priorities for the new year, including economic recovery, job creation for the youth, stronger public institutions, and improved living standards.

These focus areas echo the administration’s broader development agenda, which places emphasis on employment, productivity, and institutional reform as pillars of national renewal. Youth employment, in particular, was highlighted as a central concern.

With Ghana’s population remaining predominantly young, the party underscored the importance of creating opportunities that translate economic growth into real livelihoods. The NDC said its governance agenda would continue to target policies that expand job opportunities while ensuring that growth is inclusive and sustainable.

The statement also places renewed emphasis on institutional strength, signalling the party’s intention to deepen reforms that enhance accountability and efficiency in public administration.

By reaffirming its commitment to “stronger public institutions,” the NDC aligns its political messaging with ongoing national conversations around constitutional reform, anti-corruption measures, and public sector discipline, all of which have featured prominently in the government’s first year.

Party’s Reassurance

In reassuring Ghanaians of its intentions, the party pledged continued responsiveness and discipline in governance. “The party assures Ghanaians of its continued responsiveness, discipline, and results-driven governance in the year ahead,” the statement said, positioning accountability not only as a policy objective but as a guiding principle of leadership.

This assurance appears aimed at maintaining public confidence as the administration moves from its first year into a more demanding phase of implementation and delivery.

The tone of the message is both reflective and forward-looking, blending the symbolism of Christmas with a political assessment of the NDC’s time in office. While acknowledging the trust placed in it by voters, the party stops short of declaring premature success, instead framing its first year as a foundation-building phase.

The emphasis on “laying the groundwork for sustainable growth” suggests an understanding that the most visible outcomes of policy reforms may take time to materialise.

The NDC concluded its message by wishing all Ghanaians a peaceful Christmas and a prosperous New Year, reinforcing the unifying spirit of the season. The closing remarks underscore the party’s effort to connect governance with shared national values, presenting leadership as a collective responsibility anchored in social cohesion and mutual respect.

As Ghana enters the new year, the statement signals the governing party’s intention to remain focused on delivery, while reminding citizens of the broader moral and civic ideals that underpin democratic governance.

By linking Christmas reflection with political accountability, the NDC has used the season not only to extend goodwill, but also to restate its vision of governance grounded in service, responsibility, and long-term national progress.
