Nigerian Afrobeats superstar David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has announced a temporary suspension of his music activities for the next two months to fully commit to the re-election campaign of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke.
The announcement came during the inauguration of the Imole Youth Campaign Mobilisation Team in Ede.
Davido, who chairs the 43-man committee, urged members to embark on aggressive grassroots mobilisation, including door-to-door campaigns, to ensure the governor’s victory in the August 15, 2026, governorship election.
“I have put my musical career on hold for two months to come and work for my uncle. Not only because he is my uncle, but because he is doing a good job, and he has major things to do the job is not done,”

The committee features coordinators across Osun’s three senatorial districts, nine federal constituencies, 30 local government areas, and the Modakeke Area Office, signalling a structured push to harness youth energy for the Accord Party candidate.

Davido also obtained his membership card of the Accord Party as part of his deepened political involvement.
In a related revelation that has sparked widespread reactions, the “Fall” crooner disclosed plans to pursue a Master’s degree in Political Science at a university in the United Kingdom next year.
Davido noted that he already holds a BSc and sees the programme as preparation for greater public service roles.
“I am starting my Master’s degree in Political Science at a university in the UK next year… that’s why I am on a musical break,” he stated in clips circulating on social media.
He reassured fans that his current hits, including tracks from his recent projects, continue to dominate clubs and playlists, with roughly 10 out of 20 songs in rotation often attributed to him or his influence.
The move underscores Davido’s growing interest in politics, a path long hinted at through his vocal support for family members and philanthropic work.
Governor Adeleke’s administration has been praised in some quarters for infrastructure projects and youth empowerment initiatives, though it faces typical opposition challenges ahead of the polls.
Public Thoughts
Industry watchers view the break as strategic. Davido has maintained a high release pace in recent years, delivering chart-topping singles and albums that solidified his status as one of Africa’s biggest exports.
His decision to pause comes at a time when Afrobeats continues its global dominance, but the artist appears prioritising family legacy and personal development.
Fans have reacted with a mix of understanding and playful disappointment.
Many expressed support for his political hustle and academic ambitions, while others joked about his famously flexible release timelines. “001 is entering his statesman era,” one fan commented online.
This is not Davido’s first foray into politics. He has previously used his platform to endorse candidates and advocate for good governance.

Insiders close to the camp suggest the two-month window allows him to focus intensely on mobilisation before returning to the studio stronger.
As Osun gears up for what promises to be a keenly contested election, Davido’s involvement adds significant star power and youth appeal to the Adeleke campaign.
Whether this signals a longer-term shift toward politics remains to be seen, but the singer has made it clear that music remains a core part of his identity.
“I don’t think government work stops anything. Obviously it won’t be as much,” he said in earlier remarks about balancing potential public office with his artistic career.
For now, the 30,000-capacity O2 Arena headliner and generational talent is trading stages for streets, beats for ballots, and melodies for mobilisation all while setting his sights on academic pursuit in the UK.
