Black Star Comedy Tour

Ghanaian comedy powerhouses OB Amponsah, Lekzy DeComic, and Clemento Suarez are set to light up stages across the United States this summer with the highly anticipated Black Star Comedy Tour.

The tour, named after Ghana’s iconic “Black Star” symbol of resilience and excellence, promises an evening of non-stop laughter, sharp satire, and cultural storytelling for the Ghanaian diaspora and comedy enthusiasts alike.

The tour kicks off on June 20, 2026, at the Church Auditorium in Columbus, Ohio (2595 E Dublin Granville Rd), running from 7PM to 10PM. Subsequent stops include Woodbridge, Virginia, on July 3, and Atlanta, Georgia, on July 4, both at 7PM.

Tickets for the Columbus show are priced at $45, with sales available through obamponsah.com and partner platforms like Eventbrite and VIPSocio. Organizers expect strong turnout from communities eager to experience premium Ghanaian humor live.

OB Amponsah, the tour’s headliner and one of Ghana’s most celebrated comedians, brings a unique blend of wit honed by his dual career as a trained optometrist. Born Obarima Amponsah in Wenchi, Brong-Ahafo Region, with roots in Wiamoase, Ashanti Region, OB graduated from the University of Cape Coast.

He has balanced eye care with stand-up comedy for over 15 years, earning features on CNN African Voices for his edgy, observational style that tackles politics, culture, faith, and everyday Ghanaian life.

His ability to sell out major venues in Ghana and win competitions like the Ultimate Comic Challenge underscores his rising international profile.

“Comedy is medicine,” OB has often remarked, drawing parallels between his optometry practice and his ability to help audiences “see” life’s absurdities more clearly. His performances are known for surgical precision in satire, delivered with warmth and relatability that resonates across borders.

Joining him is Lekzy DeComic (Emmanuel Nkansah Ansong), a multiple-award-winning stand-up comedian, actor, MC, and radio/TV personality. A certified graphic designer from Takoradi Polytechnic, Lekzy has carved a niche with high-energy performances and crowd work.

He recently won Comedian of the Year for the second consecutive time at the Ghana Comedy Awards and also took Best Comic MC honors. His comedy specials, such as “Too Cute to Be Mute” and “Can Pain Message,” have garnered significant online views, showcasing his versatility from club circuits to large festivals. Lekzy’s bold vision for Ghanaian comedy includes ambitions to fill arenas like London’s O2.

Completing the powerhouse trio is Clemento Suarez (Clement Ashiteye), a multifaceted talent known for comedy, acting, and even music as an award-winning rapper. With roots in theater and appearances in popular Ghanaian series like Kejetia vs Makola, Clemento has won accolades including Best Comic Actor at the GH Comedy Awards.

His dynamic stage presence, philanthropy, and recent film roles (such as in Last Stop and Vibes the Movie) have built him a massive following, with over a million Instagram fans. Clemento frequently collaborates with OB and others, bringing sharp improv and character-driven humor to every show.

The Black Star Comedy Tour represents more than entertainment; it highlights the growing global influence of Ghanaian comedy. Ghana has long produced world-class talents who blend local slang, proverbs, and social commentary with universal themes.

As the African diaspora in the US expands, events like this foster cultural connection and provide a much-needed escape through laughter. Past collaborations among these three have consistently sold out shows back home, from university tours to major award ceremonies.

Promoters emphasize the tour’s family-friendly yet bold vibe, suitable for adults seeking authentic African humor. “These kings of Ghana comedy will storm the USA,” one promotional post declared, capturing the excitement. Attendees can expect signature bits on Ghanaian family dynamics, relationships, politics, and immigrant experiences that mirror life in America.

Public Reactions

Industry observers note the timing aligns perfectly with summer festivities, including Independence Day celebrations in the US. The Atlanta show on July 4 could draw crowds celebrating both American and Ghanaian pride.

Early ticket interest has been high in Ghanaian communities in Ohio, Virginia, and Georgia, with calls for additional dates in other cities already emerging on social media.

For OB Amponsah, the tour continues his international momentum following features and sold-out domestic runs. Lekzy DeComic sees it as validation of Ghana’s comedy evolution, while Clemento Suarez brings his acting charisma to elevate the live experience.

Together, they form a dream team capable of delivering three hours of premium content.

As Ghana’s entertainment industry matures, exports like the Black Star Comedy Tour signal broader ambitions. Comedians from the country are increasingly eyeing global markets, leveraging digital platforms where their clips rack up millions of views.

This tour could pave the way for larger arena shows and cross-continental collaborations.

Comedy fans in the US are encouraged to secure tickets early. In a world full of stress, these masters of mirth offer a timely reminder: sometimes the best medicine is a good laugh.
