The Ghana National Fire Service is currently responding to a major fire outbreak at a rubber factory near Kwame Nkrumah Circle in Accra. The incident unfolded during heavy rainfall which also triggered widespread flooding and disrupted movement across the area.
Assistant Division Officer One Alex King Nartey of the GNFS Public Relations Department confirmed the situation in an interview on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem. He explained that fire personnel were immediately deployed to the scene to contain the rapidly spreading blaze.
According to him, four fire tenders have been dispatched to combat the inferno at the industrial facility. The fire service indicated that crews are working under difficult weather conditions to bring the situation under control.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established as investigations are expected to follow after containment. Officials have assured that emergency teams remain fully engaged at the scene.
A second fire incident at a residential property at Sakaman Blue Lagoon was also brought under control earlier in the day. The service confirmed that personnel were redirected after successfully managing that outbreak.

The heavy downpour has significantly affected operational movement across Accra, especially for emergency responders. Fire crews travelling from Circle to support the Sakaman operation were stranded at Kaneshie due to flood conditions.
“When the team got to Sakaman, they needed reinforcement, but the Circle team was stranded at Kaneshie,” the GNFS spokesperson explained. He added that despite the disruption, teams are coordinating efforts to stabilise both incidents.
The Fire Service has deployed additional personnel to flood prone communities across the capital. The agency says rescue and safety operations are ongoing in affected locations.
Officials have reaffirmed their commitment to duty despite the challenges posed by the weather. They stressed that emergency response remains active across all assigned zones.
Flooded Roads Leave Circle Commuters Stranded In Accra
Heavy rainfall in Accra has once again caused severe flooding around the Kwame Nkrumah Circle Interchange, leaving hundreds of commuters stranded. The situation disrupted morning peak hour traffic and affected both private and commercial transport services.
Large sections of the interchange and surrounding roads were submerged after hours of continuous rain. The flooding forced several vehicles to stop operations or divert to alternative routes.
Commuters heading towards areas such as Kaneshie, Korle Bu and Adabraka were among the worst affected. Many passengers were unable to access transport as water levels rose across key terminals.
Several individuals were seen walking through floodwaters in an attempt to continue their journeys. Others remained stranded for long periods while waiting for conditions to improve.
Transport operators also suspended services temporarily due to safety risks and poor road accessibility. The decision further reduced mobility options for passengers across the capital.
Long queues formed at bus stops as frustrated commuters struggled to find available transport. The situation intensified delays and created congestion on adjoining roads.
Motorists faced heavy traffic build up as vehicles moved slowly through alternative routes. Some drivers attempted detours which added pressure to already congested streets.
The recurring flooding at the Circle interchange has once again raised concerns among residents and road users. Many say the situation continues despite previous drainage improvement works in the area.
Emergency response teams have been deployed to assist in flood prone sections of the city. Authorities say monitoring and support operations are ongoing as conditions evolve across Accra.
