The Jackson family has officially announced a new original docuseries examining the life of their patriarch, Joseph Walter “Joe” Jackson. Titled The Manager. The Mythology. The Legend., the multi-season project will stream exclusively on BLK Prime and is executive produced by Marlon Jackson, a founding member of the Jackson 5.

The announcement, shared this week on the official Jacksons Instagram account and amplified across social media, describes the series as offering “a deeper look at the man whose vision helped shape our family and its musical legacy.” A dramatic promotional poster features bold gold lettering against a stark black-and-white stage-like background, labeling Joe Jackson as “The Manager,” “The Mythology,” and “The Legend.”

According to BLK Prime, the first season will consist of eight episodes, with a commitment for additional seasons. The production will explore Joe Jackson’s early years, personal struggles, ambitions, and his role managing his children’s careers from their modest beginnings in Gary, Indiana, to global superstardom.

Marlon Jackson is also set to narrate the series, bringing a firsthand perspective to the project. Longtime family friend Steven Manning is among the executive producers.

In a statement provided to Page Six, Marlon Jackson said: “Our father’s life is replete with triumphs and challenges, and we firmly believe that this series will offer a distinctive and accurate portrayal of the man behind our family. We are thrilled to share [my] father’s indelible legacy with fans worldwide, granting them an intimate glimpse into the remarkable individual we knew and loved.”

Joe Jackson, who died in 2018 at age 89, remains one of the most polarizing figures in modern music history. As the strict manager and father of the Jackson 5 -Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Michael he drove the group from local talent shows to Motown Records and international fame in the late 1960s and early 1970s.

The Jackson 5 became the youngest group inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. He later guided the early careers of Michael Jackson as a solo artist and daughter Janet Jackson before she achieved massive success in her own right.

His methods, however, have long drawn intense scrutiny. Multiple siblings, including Michael, have publicly described a childhood marked by rigorous rehearsals, physical discipline, and high pressure. These accounts have shaped much of the public narrative around Joe Jackson for decades.

The 2026 biopic Michael reignited those conversations by portraying him as a harsh, controlling figure who pushed his children relentlessly toward success.

The new series arrives in the wake of that film’s cultural impact and appears designed, at least in part, to present a more complete and family-authorized view. BLK Prime has framed Joe Jackson as a visionary trailblazer whose determination laid the foundation for one of entertainment’s most successful dynasties.

The production plans to cover the family’s relationship with Motown, the intense pressures of sudden fame, and the personal bonds that sustained them through both triumphs and difficulties.

Marlon Jackson’s deep involvement is central to the project’s credibility within the family. As the sixth child of Joe and Katherine Jackson, Marlon experienced the rise of the Jackson 5 from the inside. His participation as both executive producer and narrator signals an effort to reclaim and contextualize his father’s story on the family’s own terms.

Official statements emphasize authenticity, with the series promising intimate moments and personal insights that previous portrayals may have overlooked.

No premiere date has been set. BLK Prime indicated that further details on pre-production, casting, and additional creative personnel will be released in the coming months. The platform, a subscription video-on-demand service focused on Black storytelling, is positioning the series as a major original production.

Public Reaction

The announcement has already generated significant discussion online. Supporters of the family have welcomed the opportunity for a more balanced examination of Joe Jackson’s life, noting that his role in launching multiple global stars cannot be dismissed.

Critics and those familiar with earlier accounts of the family’s dynamics have expressed skepticism, questioning whether a family-produced series can fully address the more difficult aspects of his parenting and management style.

Joe Jackson’s story is inseparable from the broader narrative of American popular music in the second half of the 20th century. From the industrial city of Gary to the heights of Motown, the Victory Tour, and the solo superstardom of Michael and Janet, his influence is undeniable.

The Manager. The Mythology. The Legend. aims to explore both the public achievements and the private realities of that journey. With Marlon Jackson guiding the project, the series will give audiences a version of the story rooted in family memory.

As production moves forward, it is expected to add a significant new chapter to the ongoing examination of the Jackson family’s complex and enduring legacy.

Fans of the music and the mythos surrounding one of entertainment’s most famous families will be watching closely when the series eventually arrives on BLK Prime.
