The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has celebrated B5 Plus Limited, one of Ghana’s leading steel manufacturing companies, for contributing over GH¢1 billion in taxes within the first nine months of 2026.
The Authority has described the contribution, which covers the period from January to September 2026, as a shining example of good corporate citizenship, tax compliance and commitment to national development.
This was disclosed during a top management engagement between the leadership of the GRA and B5 Plus Limited, where the Commissioner of the Domestic Tax Revenue Division (DTRD), Dr. Martin Kolbil Yamborigya, led a delegation to commend the company for its exemplary tax compliance.
The visit forms part of the GRA’s stakeholder engagement strategy aimed at strengthening relations with compliant taxpayers, encouraging voluntary compliance and recognising businesses that are contributing significantly to domestic revenue mobilisation.
According to the GRA, B5 Plus Limited’s contribution of over GH¢1 billion in just nine months is a remarkable feat that deserves national recognition and emulation by other corporate entities.
Speaking during the engagement, Dr. Yamborigya lauded the management and staff of B5 Plus for their consistency, transparency and integrity in meeting their tax obligations.
He noted that in an era where revenue mobilisation remains critical to funding government programmes, the actions of B5 Plus demonstrate that Ghanaian businesses can be partners in development when they adhere to the principles of accurate filing, timely payment and full disclosure.
“B5 Plus Limited has shown what good corporate citizenship truly means. Paying over GH¢1 billion in taxes in just nine months is not a small achievement. It shows a company that understands its role in national development and is committed to compliance.”
Dr. Yamborigya
He reiterated that taxes collected by the GRA go directly into financing critical national development projects including road infrastructure, schools, hospitals and healthcare delivery, security services, and various social intervention programmes that improve the lives of citizens.
“Every cedi paid in tax goes directly into national development. It builds our roads, equips our schools, supports healthcare, provides security and funds social interventions. When a company like B5 Plus pays its taxes, it is directly contributing to building Ghana.”

GRA Links Compliance to Fairness and Revenue Growth
Dr. Yamborigya stressed that the GRA’s core values of Integrity, Fairness and Service are best exemplified through partnerships with compliant taxpayers like B5 Plus Limited. He explained that voluntary compliance reduces the cost of collection, promotes fairness in the tax system and allows the Authority to focus its resources on expanding the tax net and supporting businesses.
The Commissioner used the occasion to urge all businesses and individuals across the country to emulate the example set by B5 Plus Limited by filing their returns accurately and on time and by insisting on VAT invoices for all transactions.
He reminded taxpayers that demanding VAT invoices is not only a right but also a civic responsibility that helps to ensure that taxes collected on behalf of government are duly accounted for and paid to the state.
“Together, we can build Ghana Beyond Aid through domestic revenue mobilisation. If every business does what B5 Plus is doing, Ghana will be able to finance its own development agenda.’’
Dr. Yamborigya

On its part, the management of B5 Plus Limited expressed appreciation to the GRA for the recognition and reaffirmed its commitment to remain tax compliant and to continue supporting Ghana’s industrialisation drive.
The company, which is a major player in Ghana’s steel and manufacturing sector, has over the years expanded its operations, created thousands of direct and indirect jobs, and contributed significantly to import substitution and industrial growth.
GRA Shifts from Enforcement to Partnership Approach
The company has also been recognised for its adherence to ethical business practices, investment in local value chains and commitment to environmental and social standards. The GRA noted that celebrating compliant taxpayers is part of its strategy to change the narrative around tax collection in Ghana from enforcement to partnership.
The Authority believes that recognising and publicising good tax behaviour will motivate others to comply voluntarily. The Authority has in recent months intensified its public education campaigns, urging taxpayers to file accurately and on time, embrace digital payment platforms and support the national drive to improve the tax-to-GDP ratio.
Ghana’s tax-to-GDP ratio, currently around 13 to 14 percent, remains below the average for middle-income countries, prompting the GRA to implement reforms aimed at broadening the tax base, improving efficiency and reducing leakages.
Key among these reforms are the introduction of digital filing systems, the use of electronic VAT invoicing, enhanced taxpayer education and improved service delivery at all GRA offices. Officials say the GH¢1 billion example of B5 Plus is proof that when taxpayers are supported and educated, they are willing to comply and contribute more.
The engagement ended with a call for stronger collaboration between the GRA and the private sector to ensure a win-win relationship where businesses thrive and government is able to mobilise the needed revenue for development.
The GRA expressed gratitude to B5 Plus Limited for its continued partnership and urged other companies to follow suit.
The Authority reiterated its commitment to providing excellent service to all taxpayers, ensuring fairness in the administration of tax laws and upholding integrity in all its dealings as it works towards its vision of becoming a world-class revenue administration.
