Ghanaian gospel musician Ebenezer Osei Kumi is currently in hospital battling liver disease, and his family has made a public appeal for support as medical costs continue to rise.

His sister detailing the seriousness of his condition , she explained that doctors have told the family her brother is not responding to the treatment available in Ghana. They have recommended that he be taken abroad for further care. While the exact cost of overseas treatment has not yet been confirmed, the expenses at the local hospital alone are already heavy.

She said the family is paying about GH¢15,000 every two days just to keep him on current care.

The sister described how the liver infection has caused significant swelling. Ebenezer can no longer eat normally and is being fed through a tube so that he can still receive nutrition and fluids. The images accompanying the report show him lying in a hospital bed, connected to oxygen and monitoring equipment, looking visibly unwell.

The appeal has already begun drawing reactions from fans and well-wishers. Many have responded with messages of prayer and concern, reflecting the respect Ebenezer Osei Kumi holds within gospel music circles in Ghana. Gospel artists often occupy a special place in the community, not only as entertainers but as people whose music is tied to faith and encouragement during difficult times.

When one of them falls ill, the response tends to be personal and immediate.

Details about how long he has been hospitalised or the exact stage of the disease remain limited. What is clear is that the family is under real pressure. Hospital bills of that size add up quickly, and the prospect of arranging travel and treatment outside the country multiplies the financial demand. In Ghana, many families in similar situations turn to the public when official support or personal resources fall short.

Crowdfunding through social media and church networks has become a common route for such appeals.

Ebenezer’s sister was careful to keep the focus on the practical needs. She did not dwell on drama but simply laid out the situation: the daily costs, the lack of response to local treatment, the swelling, and the feeding tube. That straightforward approach has helped the message travel.

People can understand a clear request for help more easily than a vague call for prayers alone.

Gospel music in Ghana has a long tradition of artists who share personal testimonies through their songs. Many listeners connect with the music because it speaks to real struggles; illness, financial hardship, and the need for divine intervention. It is not surprising that an appeal involving one of their own would generate attention.

Public Reaction

Fans who have been lifted by his music now find themselves in a position to offer something practical in return.

The family has not yet released specific account details or a formal fundraising platform in the initial video. That information usually follows once the story gains wider coverage. In the meantime, people who want to help are being encouraged to reach out through the channels already circulating the appeal.

Churches and gospel music associations often step in at moments like this, organising collections or connecting families with medical contacts who can assist with the process of seeking treatment abroad.

Medical travel from Ghana for specialised care is expensive and logistically complicated. Beyond the hospital fees, there are flights, accommodation, visas, and the cost of a companion to travel with the patient.

The sister noted that doctors have not yet given a full figure, which suggests the family is still in the early stages of planning that next step. Every day that passes at the current rate of GH¢15,000 adds to the total they will eventually need.

Those who have followed Ebenezer’s career will remember him as a consistent presence in the gospel space rather than a flashy headline name. Artists like him often build their following through regular church appearances, recordings, and local performances.

Their impact is felt most strongly among people who listen for spiritual encouragement rather than commercial hits. That quieter profile can make health crises more difficult, because the wider public may not recognise the name immediately. The video from his sister has helped bridge that gap by putting a human face and a clear story in front of people.

As the appeal continues, the focus remains on getting him the care he needs. The swelling, the inability to eat, and the doctors’ assessment that local treatment is not working all point to a situation that cannot wait indefinitely.

Supporters are being asked to contribute what they can while also keeping him in prayer. In gospel communities, the two often go together -practical help paired with faith that God can still intervene.

The coming days will show how the public responds. Similar appeals in the past have sometimes raised surprising amounts in a short time when the story resonates. For now, the priority is clear: stabilise his condition and find a way to get him the specialised treatment doctors say he requires.

Ebenezer Osei Kumi’s current battle has put a spotlight on the financial realities many Ghanaian families face when serious illness strikes. The GH¢15,000 every two days is a figure that most households cannot sustain for long.

His sister’s decision to speak publicly has turned a private medical crisis into a shared concern, at least for those who have followed his music or simply respond to a fellow Ghanaian in need.
