The National Officers Elections Committee of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has confirmed that proxy voting will be permitted in the upcoming National Delegates Conference slated for October 3, 2026.

Speaking at a press conference, the Chairman of the National Elections Committee, Honourable Frederick Opare-Ansah, disclosed that the final proxy register will be published on September 27.

The Former Suhum MP explained that a comprehensive framework had been developed to regulate eligibility, application, verification, approval and the eventual exercise of proxy votes. The framework, he noted, would be administered directly by the committee with support from its secretariat.

He added that preparations were progressing according to schedule ahead of the conference at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi.

Reflecting on voting eligibility, the Chairman explained that all eligible youth delegates would participate in the election of the National Youth Organizer alongside the other positions for which they qualify. Similarly, female delegates would vote in the election of the National Women’s Organizer in addition to the other elections in which they are eligible to participate.

Referencing the National Vice Chairperson election, the Former Suhum MP revealed that each delegate would be required to select three aspirants on the ballot paper. A tally system will subsequently be used to count the votes, with detailed voting instructions expected to be communicated before voting begins.

On transparency, Honourable Opare-Ansah disclosed that aspirants had been asked to submit the names and photographs of their polling agents. These agents will monitor the printing of ballot papers while the information will also support identification, accreditation and access arrangements.

The Electoral Commission of Ghana will conduct the elections under the supervision of the committee and in accordance with the approved guidelines. Honourable Opare-Ansah also noted that the committee was working with the Ghana Police Service to support an orderly and secure process.

Delegates are expected to arrive in Kumasi on Friday, October 2, before the conference begins at 9:00am the following day. The committee has urged all delegates to follow the announced transportation and accommodation arrangements and arrive on time.

The Former Suhum MP described the completion of the register as another significant milestone ahead of the national officers election scheduled for the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi. He also disclosed that an online verification facility had been established to allow delegates to confirm their eligibility before travelling to the conference.
