The New Patriotic Party’s National Officers Elections Committee has outlined the programme and voter identification requirements for the party’s national officers’ elections scheduled for Saturday, October 3, 2026.
In a notice issued on Wednesday, September 30, the committee directed delegates to take note of the arrangements ahead of the conference and ensure they complete verification requirements before voting.
The programme will begin with consideration of proposed constitutional amendments at exactly 9:00 a.m., according to the notice signed by Chairman of the National Officers Elections Committee, Frederick Opare-Ansah. The election of national officers is expected to commence at 12:00 p.m. after the constitutional business.
Voting will take place across 31 polling stations for nine elected national positions. These include the National Chairman, Vice Chairman, General Secretary, National Organiser, National Women’s Organiser, National Youth Organiser, National Nasara Organiser, National Treasurer and National Communications Director.
Directing attention to the verification process, the committee explained that the Electoral Commission will conduct the elections and verify every delegate seeking to vote. Each voter must have their name on the delegates’ register and present one valid identification document before being permitted to cast a ballot.
The approved identification documents are a Voter ID card, Ghana Card or NPP party card. Delegates have consequently been advised to arrive with at least one of the accepted documents and allow sufficient time for verification ahead of the exercise.
The committee has also called on constituency, regional and national officers to communicate the arrangements to delegates under their respective jurisdictions. It noted that punctuality and cooperation would be necessary to ensure the orderly consideration of the constitutional amendments and the subsequent elections.
The notice places the Electoral Commission at the centre of the voter verification and election process while the NPP’s National Officers Elections Committee oversees the party’s arrangements. The party had earlier announced that the elections would be held in Kumasi as part of its process of selecting a new team of national executives.
Meanwhile, the election committee has urged delegates to familiarise themselves with the schedule before arriving at the polling venue. The arrangements are intended to separate the constitutional business from the voting exercise and provide an organised process for the election of the party’s national officers.
NPP Clears Aspirants As National Elections Contest Nears
The New Patriotic Party has cleared 47 aspirants to contest its national officers’ elections, setting the stage for a multi-position contest as the party prepares to elect its next national leadership team. The elections are scheduled for October 3, 2026, in Kumasi, with the Electoral Commission expected to supervise the exercise.
The National Chairmanship contest has four candidates following the withdrawal of Bernard Antwi Boasiako, popularly known as Chairman Wontumi. The remaining contenders are former National Chairman Paul Afoko, former General Secretary John Boadu, former Energy Minister Boakye Agyarko and former Greater Accra Regional Chairman Sammy Crabbe.
For the General Secretary position, incumbent Justin Frimpong Kodua faces former Subin MP Eugene Boakye Antwi, former Bortianor-Ngleshie-Amanfro MP Sylvester Tetteh and Dr Charles Dwamena. Balloting has already determined the candidates’ positions on the ballot paper ahead of the October 3 exercise.
The National Organiser contest has also attracted several contenders, including Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover, Kwame Prempeh, Archibald Korleytey Gamor, Emmanuel Korsi Bodja, Nana Kwadjo Agyei Yeboah, Daniel Agyenim Boateng and Ali Maiga Halidu. Salam Mustapha, who initially filed for the position, subsequently withdrew from the contest.
Additionally, the Vice Chairperson race features 13 aspirants, while six candidates are contesting the National Youth Organiser position. The National Women’s Organiser contest includes Mavis Hawa Koomson and other candidates, while the National Communications Director race has Dennis Miracles Aboagye and Evan Kodo.
The party’s national executive election process has progressed through several stages since nominations opened in August. The National Officers Elections Committee subsequently conducted vetting between August 31 and September 3 before clearing all 47 aspirants who filed to contest the nine national executive positions.
Balloting was later conducted to determine the order in which candidates will appear on the ballot paper. In the chairmanship contest, John Boadu drew the first position, followed by Sammy Crabbe, Paul Afoko and Boakye Agyarko, while the General Secretary ballot also features four contenders.
