“Completion of phase 1 of the Obetsebi Lamptey interchange shows the seriousness that my government attaches towards reducing the congestion in some of the major cities within the country.”

“Currently the following interchanges are under construction throughout the county; Pokuase interchange which is the first four-tier interchange in West Africa is 85% complete and sections of the interchange will be opened to traffic this very week.

“The Tamale interchange, which is the first interchange in Northern Ghana is 65% complete and is on course to being completed by the first quarter of 2021. PTC roundabout interchange in Takoradi, which is also the first interchange in the Western part of the country is progressing steadily. He then commended the contractor for completing the project five months ahead of schedule.

“We congratulate the contractor for this admirable worth-work and we hope it will characterise the rest of their performance of this contract.”

The President further urged Ghanaians to extend his mandate by keeping him in power come December 7, so, he can continue to do more of the good works he has started.

“This is the first time in the history of this country, that more than 5 interchanges are being constructed in the first-term administration. If there are any more reasons to give Nana and Akufo-Addo four more years to do more, this is one of them.”

The $17 million Obestsebi Lamptey Interchange project, is expected to significantly reduce traffic and congestion on the stretch which records 60,000 vehicular movements daily.

Also, the perennial flooding during rains in the area is expected to be dealt with the construction of storm drains.

The Obetsebi-Lamptey Circle is a major roundabout that links Kaneshie to Accra through Graphic Road; Kaneshie to the Kwame Nkrumah Interchange, and then Kaneshie to the spare-parts hub of Abossey Okai.

The ground level of the first phase will have a re-modelled roundabout, whilst the second tier will be an east to west flyover linking the Graphic Road to the Kaneshie-Mallam road. The third tier will be a north-south flyover on the Ring Road West, which will link the Ring Road from the Royal Chapel Church to the Central Mosque at Abossey Okai.

Critical drainage structures that go through the roundabout is also said to be upgraded under this project to help reduce the incidence of flooding at the roundabout.
