Ghanaian musician, Ypee, has refuted claims made by Kumerican artiste, Oseikrom Sikanii, who alleged that he receives GHC20,000 for his performances.

Ypee, during his appearance in an interview, accused Oseikrom Sikanii of telling lies about his earnings, asserting that he is the only artiste from Kumasi who can command such a fee.

During the interview, Ypee highlighted his seniority in the music industry, having collaborated with established musicians such as Flowking Stone, Kabum, and others.

He also positioned himself as a leader among the younger generation of musicians.

Ypee revealed:

“The people who look up to me are like my children. I won’t mention their names, but they consider me as their role models”.

Ypee took the opportunity to defend his standing as an established musician, emphasizing his extensive collaborations with some of Ghana’s biggest names.

He confidently cited working with industry heavyweights such as Shatta Wale, Stonebwoy, Sarkodie, and others, asserting that he has been featured by more artists than anyone else in Ghana.

In debunking Oseikrom Sikanii’s claims and affirming his position in the music industry, Ypee aims to set the record straight regarding his status and contributions as a respected artist.

Budding Ghanaian musician, Ypee, acknowledged that Sarkodie played a more pivotal role in his rise to prominence than Medikal did in his songs.

Speaking in an interview, he stated that he means no disrespect to Medikal because he did his best for him as well.

Ypee explained:

“When I was starting my musical career, I had the opportunity to collaborate with both Medikal and Sarkodie.

“While I don’t want to disrespect Medikal for his contribution to the song, I must say that Sarkodie’s impact was particularly instrumental in making the song gain widespread recognition”.

After this revelation, Ypee, however, also clarified that his decision to engage in a rap battle with Medikal was not solely influenced by the dispute between Medikal and Strongman, instead, he approached the situation with a strategic mindset, recognizing the growing interest in rap music among Ghanaians at the time.

In 2019, Ypee had previously opened up about his strained relationship with Medikal. He revealed in an exclusive interview that Medikal had declined to perform their collaborative hit song, ‘Me y3 Guy’, during a show where Medikal was the headline artist.

The rapper Ypee revealed that he dropped out of the University of Ghana one month after enrolling due to the desire of making money.

He told during the interview:

“I attended Legon but I stopped in a month because I needed money… I was under pressure to get enough money to catch up with the pressure of people having a lot of money, the ladies and all”.

Ypee, whose real name is Andy Agyeman, said though his parents were taking care of him financially, it was not enough for the kind of lifestyle he wanted.

After leaving University, the 27-year-old moved to Kumasi where he got into a relationship with a ‘sugar mummy’ who supported his business financially.

In his words, he said:

“I left school one Friday to my brother who stays at Akweteyman before I left for Kumasi in 2015. I got myself a sugar mummy after prematurely ending my educational career in 2015 and she helped me to be financially independent by supporting my business”.
