Nana Konadu Agyemang-Rawlings Might Return To The NDC– Kojo Bonsu

Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings

Former Kumasi mayor, Kojo Bonsu, predicts that Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings, the former First Lady, will join the National Democratic Congress (NDC) as soon as possible.

Speaking about the importance of numbers in ensuring the NDC’s success in the general elections of 2024, Mr. Bonsu highlighted that every number, no matter how small it may seem, counts.

“She will be back, and it is just a matter of time. Upon her return, she can be an elder in the party because she was part of the formation of the party, and let us not take that away from her.

“Even if she comes with just 20 people, it is still numbers, because you win an election with 50 percent plus one. If we all come together and unite, it makes our party strong.”

In 2012, the former First Lady left the NDC. She ran against the late President John Evans Atta Mills in the NDC’s presidential primaries in 2008 but was horribly defeated. Some people speculate that this experience influenced her choice to found her own party, the National Democratic Party (NDP), in 2012.

Under whatever circumstances, Nana Konadu Agyeman-Rawlings promised never to rejoin the NDC. The late former President John Rawlings (of blessed memory), her husband and the founder of the NDC, urged his wife to think about joining the party again. Nevertheless, he admitted at the time that his wife could not be held fully responsible for her choice to abandon the event they had worked so hard to put on.

Kojo Bonsu Never Dreamt Of Defeating Mahama

Former mayor of Kumasi and failed candidate for National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, Kojo Bonsu claims he knew from the start of the NDC’s primary on May 13, that he could not defeat former President John Dramani Mahama.

“To be honest, I didn’t believe I could beat former President Mahama from the start, but I was hoping that maybe people would change their minds and vote for me.”

He stated that he decided to challenge the former President, in order to strengthen the party and show that there is democracy inside the NDC.

He added that if he hadn’t challenged Mr. Mahama, “we would not have known that there are problems down there because there are areas that he wouldn’t have visited. But because of these primaries, he [Mr. Mahama] went everywhere. Normally, he would only focus on certain regions, but now he has been everywhere.”

Speaking about former Finance Minister Dr. Kwabena Duffuor and his contributions leading up to the primaries, as well as his eventual withdrawal from the race, Mr. Bonsu said, “he is my senior man, I respect him for what he has achieved in life, and I don’t have any issues with him. He has his own way of doing things, and he is entitled to his actions.”

“I did agree with him on the photo album, but I didn’t think he should have taken the matter to court. It was an internal issue that we could have resolved internally. It wasn’t a serious problem. He could have gone to court earlier, but waiting until the last minute gives the impression that you have ulterior motives to disrupt many things.”

Kojo Bonsu

John Mahama won 98.9% of the votes in the party’s primaries on May 13 and will represent the NDC in the 2024 general elections.
