Bernard Antwi Boasiako also known as Chairman Wontumi of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) who made a request to the government to expedite procedures for the start of work on the Suame Interchange, according to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region is a dissapointment.
According to the NDC, Chairman Wontumi’s argument shows that the NPP has nothing to offer the residents of the Ashanti Region in terms of infrastructure.
The Suame Interchange project, according to the NPP administration, is still a top priority for the Ashanti Region’s citizens, thus government should give it top priority in order to complete it.
However, in response to Chairman Wontumi’s appeal, Augustus Kwesi Andrews, the NDC’s Chairman for Ashanti Region, claims the government has let down the people of Ashanti Region.
“I am very disappointed at what Chairman Wontumi is doing. We all know that the Ashanti Region is the stronghold of the NPP and now the chairman of the NPP is begging his own government to speed up projects in Ashanti Region. This shows that the NPP is taking the people for granted. They went to Kumawu begging, and we all know the results that came out from Kumawu. Gradually, they are losing the Ashanti Region to the NDC.”

Chairman Wontumi’s Plea To The President
The New Patriotic Party officials in the Ashanti Region, under the direction of Regional Chairman, Bernard Antwi Boasiako (Chairman Wontumi), pleaded with the administration to speed up the procedures so that the Suame Interchange Project could be started.
They stressed how crucial the project is to the Ashanti Region’s residents and how the Akufo-Addo administration need to give it top priority.
Work on the project has not started, despite President Akufo-Addo’s ceremonial groundbreaking in October 2022.
Chairman Wontumi, as he is known in the community, made a request to the President to see to it that construction on the Suame interchange gets underway.
Once completed, the project will include a four-tier interchange at the present Suame Roundabout, as well as overpasses at the junctions of Abrepo, Krofrom, Anomangye, Magazine New Road, and Abusuakruwa.
After the Pokuase Interchange in the Greater Accra Region, it will be the second four-tier interchange in the nation and the first in the Ashanti Region.
The NPP executives assume that commencing the project will help the President gain popularity in the area for the elections in 2024.
“We are only begging the President to ensure that work begins on the Suame interchange. We know he cannot fulfil all his promises but at least he must at least start work on this project so that people vote for him in 2024.”
Chairman Wontumi
Construction of the interchange will be undertaken by M/S Grupo Dizmar of Spain and Rango Construction Limited, a Ghanaian company, while the complementary road component will be undertaken wholly by a Ghanaian firm, Rango Construction Company Limited, with the supervision of the entire project being the responsibility of the Ministry of Roads and Highways, through the Department of Urban Roads.
