“Second Jesus Christ” Of Assin North- NDC Hails Gyakye Quayson

According to Apaah Martin, the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) deputy communications officer for the area, James Gyakye Quayson is the “second Jesus Christ” of the Assin North constituency.

He anticipates that Quayson will win the upcoming by-election handily because of all that he has done for the constituents. Martin asserted that the voters in Assin North have already made up their minds about who they will support and that the recent road building in Assin Bereku will not affect their choice.

“Now that it is getting to the by-election, they have started the construction of the road. It is not a bad thing, but we are telling them whether they construct the road or not, the people of Assin North have decided already.”

Apaah Martin

In addition, he questioned if construction would continue following the by-election.

Martin said that Quayson received almost 17,000 votes in the general election of 2020, beating out his opponent who received 14,000 votes. He continued that Quayson has done a lot for the residents of Assin North, thus the NDC has set a goal of garnering 29,000 votes for him in the by-election.

Just one day after the Electoral Commission set a by-election for June 27 in that constituency, several of the roads in Assin Bereku, the district headquarters of Assin North, are currently being renovated.

Speaking to reporters, a number of people expressed their belief that the approaching by-election offered a chance to address the city of Assin Bereku’s long-standing problem of neglected roadways. Residents however, are questioning if these construction initiatives will proceed after the by-election, whiles others are glad that the constituency’s progress has resumed as a result of the by-elections.

In An Unjust Society, Silence Is A Crime

The deposed Assin North MP James Gyakye Quayson, according to Ellembelle MP, Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah, refuses to be humiliated by the justice system.

“This is what our unfair justice system has tried to subject him to in the last 2 years. A man of complete integrity, Hon Quayson has held his cool and has maintained his dignity in the face of this blatant injustice. His quest to contribute his quota in ameliorating the predicament of his people is unparalleled. Despite the miscarriage of justice administered to him, his sacred resolve to change the narrative for the good people of Assin North remains undeterred and unbroken.”

Emmanuel Armah Kofi-Buah

He asserted that “In an unjust society, silence is a crime” and that all men have a duty to speak up because eventually, the entire nation of Ghana would hear what the residents of Assin North have to say. He warned that on June 27, the residents of Assin North will cry out vehemently against the injustice done to them.

“The injustice of depriving them of representation for the last couple of years. If you are an apostle of justice, then stand up to be counted. Join the movement to re-elect Hon. Gyakye Quayson. We are poised for victory,” he stated.

Mr. Quasyon indicated in a statement announcing his decision to run that he is confident the residents of Assin North are prepared for the bye-election. In order to return to Parliament and carry out the job he started on their behalf, he underlined the need to restore democracy and urged everyone to vote for him.

“Since last year April, when the Supreme Court stopped me from performing my duties as your representative in Parliament, you have been without representation in the 8th Parliament of the 4th Republic. Like the people of the SALL Traditional Areas who are excluded from representation in this Parliament, you the people of Assin North too have been in that unacceptable situation for over a year.”
