WANEP calls on ECOWAS Chair to issue a statement that shows Nigerians “are not alone”

President Akufo-Addo

President Akufo-Addo has lauded the significant impact of the life of late former member of parliament for Ningo-Prampram, Enoch Teye Mensah.

According to him, the death of his friend of long standing years brings up so many emotions – grief, sense of loss, sadness, reflections on friendship, reminiscences on a generation. He indicated that the passing of the former statesman has equally exposed the “stark reality of mortality, the prospects of eternity, the presence of the Living God”.

These feelings, the President noted, are fully present in him when he contemplates the sad passing of Enoch Teye Mensah.

Interior Minister Outlines Key Achievements After 6 Months

“E.T, as he was referred to by all and sundry, and I entered Parliament together in January 1997. Even though we were on different sides in the House, he became a very good friend right till the very end.

“As a result of holding several portfolios in several NDC Governments, he became well-known for his association with Ghana sports, particularly the development of Ghana football. He served the people of Ningo Prampram, as Member of Parliament, for five (5) consecutive terms, and was elevated, during my second term as President, to the high position of Member of the Council of State in 2021.”

President Akufo-Addo

Describing ET Mensah as a warm, generous, gregarious man with a keen intellect and wonderful sense of humour, President Akufo-Addo highlighted that the late legislator in his element, was a “better company, and was a good source of advice for me as President of the Republic”, insisting that he has lost a good friend.

“My wife, Rebecca, the First Lady, and I extend our deepest condolences to his widow, his children, the National Democratic Congress, the Chiefs and people of Ningo Prampram, the Council of State and the people of Ghana on this sad loss. May the Good Lord bless his soul and give him a peaceful place of abode. Amen!!”

NPP stalwarts sign book of condolences for Theresa Kufuor

Meanwhile, following the demise of former first lady, Theresa Kufuor, dignitaries from various groups and stalwarts of the New Patriotic Party have gathered at the Peduase residence of former President, John Agyekum Kufuor, to extend their condolences and support following the passing of his wife.

Some of those who signed the book of condolence include Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Chief of Staff Akosua Frema Opare, Joyce Aryee, and National Security Minister, Kan Dapaah.

Reliving their memories with the former first lady, the dignitaries praised Theresa Kufuor for her compassion, dedication to serving others, and her role in promoting peace and unity in Ghana.

Former Speaker of Parliament, Prof Mike Ocquaye reckoned that former President Kufuor must have had a lot of peace of mind which is needed when one is on a job as a President and every serious public service job as he had.

He indicated that the peace that she gave former President Kufuor transcended all areas, and she deserves to rest in perfect peace.

A former government official, Kwame Pianim, noted that “when she became a first lady, she was a mother to everyone”.

“Many people only know her as the first lady. She and Prof Nyame built the Cocoa Clinic. She is one of the few Ashantis who speak Ewe fluently because of the school she attended, so she united all of us. So, we have lost a great mother.”
