Lucrative Sponsorship Is A Thorny Matter – Piesie Esther

Renowned Gospel Musician, Piesie Esther

Renowned Gospel Musician, Piesie Esther has noted that lucrative sponsorship is a thorny matter when it comes to Gospel music.

The ‘Waye Me Yie’ hitmaker revealed ultimately, a conflict of interest is the major reason Gospel musicians seem to struggle with receiving or accepting sponsorship.

“In some instances, the sponsor markets alcoholic beverages and so if they bring alcohol to me Piesie Esther to advertise, I cannot do it. I cannot advertise for an alcoholic product,” she cited.

“Unlike Hiplife which is open to anything kind of sponsorship, Gospel musicians cannot endorse just anything at all,” the multiple award-winner said.

She further added that this is one of the major bottlenecks for sponsorship in the Gospel music fraternity.

According to Piesie Esther, she was recently contacted by a certain lottery company, and persistently tried to convince her to accept their sponsorship but she declined.

“The name of the company was going to be counterproductive to my work,” she noted.

She affirmed that sponsorship avenues are available but the nature of the said sponsorship is often taboo to Gospel music.

Piesie Esther emphatically revealed that she can never advertise for companies that produce and or market alcohol, lottery, and condoms. She bemoaned these are ironically the companies with the deep pockets.

“Marketing for sex enhancement products is another wahala [problem]. I am, however, open to marketing period products for women because that’s normal,” she said.

Explaining why she stays away from endorsing sex enhancers, “Some clients may want you to be explicit in your endorsement but some things are too heavy for my mouth to utter,” she noted.

Esther won the ultimate award, Artiste of the Year, at the 2023 Ghana Music Awards: Europe, which happened in France.

The Pretence In The Gospel Fraternity

Piesie Esther asserted that there is no genuine love but pretence in the Gospel fraternity.

According to her, she used to say there was no love among Gospel acts, adding that she has not changed her mind.

The multiple award-winning singer-songwriter revealed that due to sheer annoyance, someone can wish or work to destroy something that benefits or spotlights another.

“It is a human trait and because of this, you don’t see the love. We may see it on the surface, but, in the heart, trust me, it is absent,” she indicated.

“It is absolutely nonexistent,” she stressed.

The Gospel star, who is apparently pained, intimated that if she were to act according to some of the hurtful things aimed at her, she would totally disregard and walk past her fellows.

“Because of Jesus Christ, I overlook all these things, see my fellows, and smile at them,” she said.

“I do not live with them. I may not even encounter them ever again after that time together,” she further noted.

She explained that her actions are not out of spite but a clean heart and such a posture is helpful to her.

In tandem with the Ghanaian proverb, she disclosed that from afar, the Gospel stars look united like a forest but once a person draws closer to scrutinize, it is readily revealed that they are single trees in their respective places.

Earlier this year, when Piesie Esther lost the prestigious Artiste of the Year trophy to newcomer Black Sherif at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMAs), Facebook users argued a post by her fellow Gospel star Empress Gifty seemed to ridicule her efforts at winning.

Currently, there is a reported feud brewing between her and another Gospel act, Joyce Blessing. Piesie has been accused of releasing her four-day-old new song, “Mo” (Well done), to overshadow Joyce’s 9-day-old “Victory” song.
