The Ghana Police Service has intensified security measures to ensure peace before, during, and after the elections of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries today, November 4, 2023.

Contained in a release signed by the Police Director of Public Affairs, ASP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, the service revealed that enough police officers have been deployed in all parts of the country to maintain electoral law and order.

“The Ghana Police Service would like to assure the General Public that sufficient security measures have been put in place to maintain law and order as well as ensure peace and security, before, during and after the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primaries which comes off 4th November 2023.”

Furthermore, the Police assured that personnel have been deployed throughout the country to provide security for the elections.

As an additional layer of security, it stated that “police bodyworn cameras will also be deployed at all the voting centers”.

Also, the police equally stated that a series of security meetings have already been held with the Electoral Commission, the NPP Presidential Election Committee, and representatives of the Flagbearer hopefuls.

With all the above measures, the service guaranteed peace, security, law, and order during the election.

Elsewhere, Ashanti Regional Director of the Electoral Commission, Benjamin Bannor Bio, stated that his team is poised to ensure the declaration of results that accurately reflect the desires of the New Patriotic Party’s delegates in their presidential election.

He indicated that they will only use the Voter’s Album provided by the Elections Committee of the NPP for today’s Presidential primary.

“We will ensure that the results declared will be a true reflection of the people’s desires who voted.”

EC commits to delivering fair election

Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr Serebour Quaicoe, has revealed that the first target of the CI is to ensure continuous registration of Ghanaians.

In spite of concerns raised by some constituencies regarding the album, Mr Boi clarified that the Commission would not accept any other album for the polls.

He further took the opportunity to advise voters to conduct themselves appropriately to ensure that the polls are conducted freely and fairly.

“The register was compiled according to those who qualify to vote. So, in the case of Mampong, only the MP and the MCE are registered. The others are not there because their election has not been scheduled. I would like to advise the delegates that everyone should strive to exhibit good behaviour.

“As a commission, we are committed to ensuring that the right procedures are followed. What they need to do is show up in large numbers and cast their votes on time. After voting, they can go home, and when it’s time for the closing, they can return to observe the vote counting.”

Benjamin Bannor Bio

Meanwhile, Director of Electoral Services at the Electoral Commission (EC), Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, has urged New Patriotic Party (NPP) delegates in Saturday’s presidential primary to uphold the sanctity of secret voting.

He also advised all delegates to respect the electoral laws and maintain the integrity of the voting process.

“Every law on elections is in place and it is imperative that the sanctity of the secret ballot is upheld. It is vital that all delegates respect the laws and maintain the integrity of the voting process. Any attempt to capture your vote on camera will result in your ballot being disqualified.”

Moreover, Dr Quaicoe ruled out the use of gadgets in demarcated areas at the polling stations during the New Patriotic Party’s presidential primary on November 4.

He highlighted that the practice where images are taken by delegates to confirm the candidate voted for, will not be permitted.
