Patience Nyarko Regrets Ignoring Her Father’s Advice

Ghanaian gospel musician, Patience Nyarko

Ghanaian gospel musician, Patience Nyarko has disclosed that her decision not to heed her father’s advice to learn sewing tormented her a lot.

The gospel musician expressed deep regrets, acknowledging that such a skill could have been instrumental in generating extra income for self-management throughout her life.

Patience Nyarko revealed that after completing Junior High School (J.H.S), her father advised her to learn sewing but she turned deaf ears to him. Despite his counsel, she chose a different path in life, a decision that now brings her regret.

However, Patience Nyarko noted that she has lost interest in sewing and has no plans to learn it at this stage of her life.

“One thing I regret in my entire life is not listening to my father’s advice to learn sewing. In those days, people underrated sewing so it was not attractive. How I could have been sewing my own dress with my style but, unfortunately, I didn’t,” she said.

Patience Nyarko further disclosed that her education ended at J.H.S. She, however, did not specify her reasons for not continuing her education.

She revealed that her ambition was to become a lawyer if she had been able to further her education to the tertiary level, adding that she does not have any interest in going to school anymore.

Patience Nyarko’s exploits in the music industry have made her a recognized gospel musician in Ghana.

Also, the musician revealed that there was a prophecy that she would find her calling as a gospel artist but she never believed until she started writing her own songs, and through that, she saw the Lord’s greatness growing abundantly upon her life.

Financial Challenges Faced By Gospel Musicians

Patience Nyarko shed light on the financial challenges faced by gospel musicians in the modern age, revealing that being a gospel musician has become an expensive venture.

In the past, the focus was primarily on the divine message conveyed through songs, adding that in recent times, the music industry has evolved significantly which has contributed to the high financial demands.

Ms. Nyarko revealed that gospel artists are now expected to produce music videos, invest in their appearance, and cinematography, and maintain their brand, which often requires significant financial resources.

According to her, without sponsors and investors, it is almost impossible to make it in the gospel genre due to the heavy competition among them in order to excel.

She further added that the reason new gospel artists have not emerged in the music industry yet is because there are no investors to sponsor them leaving the burden on just the few who are still dominating.

Also, Patience Nyarko disclosed that the pressure on social media, where artists are subjected to scrutiny, especially regarding their clothing choices has increased their burden because they can’t repeat clothes due to the name tag they have on them.

“No matter how good you are, you won’t be in the limelight without financial commitment to the brand. Now social media has made it worse because they expect too much from us. You can’t even repeat clothes, you have to look good all the time and they all become part of the financial burden,” she said.

“Because of our status [celebrity], you have to always buy a new dress and that is costly. There is so much unnecessary pressure on social media. I would advise the youth against relying on someone who is being sponsored,” she further stated.

However, Patience Nyarko revealed that the little income they make from streaming and other music platforms helps to fund their lifestyle.
