Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman, the Running Mate for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the 2020 general elections, has strongly criticized President Akufo-Addo’s tendency to attribute his administration’s challenges to areas that did not vote for him.

In her statement, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman pointed out instances where the president seemed to connect the neglect of certain areas to their voting patterns.

She cited responses to Torgbui Adzonu-Gaga Amenya Fiti V, the Paramount Chief from Aflao, and the displaced people of the flooded areas in the Volta Region and the recent statement by President Akufo-Addo regarding the development in Ekumfi as some of the instances where President Akufo-Addo has made similar statements.

“Mr. President, please do something, say something different before you go. But come to think of it, our president has been consistent in blaming his failures and woes on those who he claims do not vote for him”.

Expressing concern over the president’s consistent blame game, Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman urged President Akufo-Addo to adopt a more inclusive and responsive approach to governance.

She questioned the paradox of the Ashanti Region, a supposed stronghold of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), in which residents have constantly complained of neglect and lack of development.

She thus mocked the ‘massive votes claimed by the New Patriotic Party and questioned where those votes truly originated from.

“Many of us await the response of our president to his ‘stronghold’. Maybe he will repeat his response to Torgbui Adzonu-Gaga Amenya Fiti V. Or to the good people of Kwabre, again. But, let’s wait.  Maybe we will hear a response different from the one he directed to the people of Kwabre that it’s none of his business if they vote for the NDC. I believe the good people from Kwabre have heard the president whose party they swear to have consistently voted for, loud and clear”.

Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman

Professor Naana Jane Opoku Agyeman, however, emphasized the National Democratic Congress’s openness to collaborate with all Ghanaians, irrespective of their political affiliations, in building a better Ghana.

She underscored the leadership of the party’s flagbearer, former President John Dramani Mahama, whose remarkable records according to her is evidence to all Ghanaians.

Ekumfi MP Decries President’s Remarks, Calls for Inclusive Development

Meanwhile, the Member of Parliament for Ekumfi Constituency, Abeiku Crentsil, has expressed his disappointment in President Akufo-Addo’s recent comments suggesting that the government has overlooked development in Ekumfi due to the constituency’s voting patterns.

In response to the President’s remarks, Honorable Abeiku Crentsil expressed his unhappiness with the President’s comments and contested that the New Patriotic Party administration, which has been in power for the past eight years, has not initiated any development projects in the Ekumfi Constituency.

“To me, I can say that the president has more or less spoken for the people to keep on voting for the NDC. Because indeed, he knows that if the NPP is in power for whatever years, there is nothing they can offer the people of Ekumfi. He’s finished our campaign for us.”

Honourable Abeiku Crentsil further emphasized that during his tenure, Ekumfi has witnessed various development initiatives initiated by the National Democratic Congress while in office.

Honourable Abeiku Crentsil also called for a more constructive and inclusive discourse from President Akufo-Addo when addressing the citizens of the country and rebutted the idea that development should be contingent on the political allegiance of constituents.
