Ghanaian musician, Emmanuel Yeboah, also known as AY Poyoo, has revealed that his former manager deleted his songs from some streaming platforms.

According to him, he hasn’t been able to contact the said manager since he has been blocked.

“My manager had wanted to do something for himself, but my presence was a sort of distraction to his goal. I don’t have any problem with him because it is work and we don’t understand each other. Before he pulled everything down, he had blocked me so I don’t have his contact.”

AY Poyoo

He further stated that his reason for making it public is to help educate young and upcoming artists.

“I don’t think I am the first person facing this challenge. Others face the same. My reason for making this issue known is to help educate the upcoming musicians so they learn from my mistakes.”

AY Poyoo

He also added that he signed the contract presented to him out of excitement.

“We signed a contract but I didn’t read it because I was happy. Even if I said something bad, the songs weren’t supposed to be taken down since it was a futuristic investment. For now, my mind is not on trying to solve everything but rather focus on building myself.”

Opening up about his decision to leave Ghana for Nigeria, Ay Poyoo revealed that his move to Nigeria was driven by a desire to improve his understanding of music.

He added that the rise of Afrobeats in Nigeria was an opportunity for him to learn about music.

“I’ve put my reasons out on my social media platforms, but the main reason I left was because I wanted to learn more about music. In Nigeria, Afrobeats is very wide, and that was the main reason I’m there. I wanted to learn more about the industry, music, songwriting, and composition, so I had to move there.”

AY Poyoo acknowledged the support he received throughout his career but noted that he was left midway through his journey to the top.

“Everybody has added something to my career; everybody supported me. But the problem is they left me on the way to the promised land, so I had to move on. Even before I moved to Nigeria, I had lots of fans and support from other countries, not just Nigeria.”

AY Poyoo

He is currently signed with Nigeria’s TMY Empire, which he joined in November 2023, and has been active in Nigeria since then.

AY Poyoo shared the inspiration for his new EP title, ‘The Rejected Stone’

According to him, he felt rejected by Ghanaians, leading him to generate that EP.

He attributed the rejection to his lifestyle during his early beginnings in the music industry.

“Because of the turnouts in my life, I felt rejected by Ghanaians, although you (Ghanaians) may feel you hadn’t,” AY Poyoo said.

He recounted his experience by describing it as a ‘parent-child’ journey.

“For instance, you move out with your child, and in the middle of the journey (sea), you leave them to move ahead because of a wrongdoing. He might die. But when I finally come out, I would see you as a bad person because you didn’t think about my age in the first place.”

AY Poyoo

He also shared his experience in his music journey, recounting his challenges.

“When I was ‘booming’, media houses called upon me for interviews but all of a sudden, no one contacted me again. It made me feel rejected. There are so many things which brought up these things. I am the cause but my focus now is to learn from my previous mistakes.”
