Nigerian singer, Michael Adebayo Olayinka, also known as Ruger has disclosed the inspiration behind his new singles ‘Luv Again’ and ‘Make Way’ and how he squashed his beef with BNXN.
Ruger and BNXN (formerly Buju) have a very highly publicized beef that went on for nearly 3 years before it was eventually squashed.
According to Ruger, the issue with BNXN was fuelled by fan comparison which he thinks is not always negative but sadly led to a beef between them.
“Comparison is a killer of joy, but it’s necessary for the game. This is what is entertaining these people. The arguments and all that. We looked beyond that (the comparisons) and asked ‘How can we push good music together?’ Because there’s a lot of distractions now in the music space.
“Some people are releasing things that are not good, but they are using money to push it and it’s flying…If you look at the ‘RnB’ project, it’s very good music.”

Ruger recently released two new singles ‘Luv Again’ and ‘Make Way’. According to the multi-talented Nigerian dancehall sensation, ‘Luv Again’ is him saying he has loved again but he can switch anytime.
On his relationship life, Ruger shares that he finds it very easy to fall in love although he’s not in one right now because of the summer where he is billed to go on a European tour.
He opened up about how easy it is for him to fall in love with women who do nice things for him.
“I can fall in love with like five different women. Love to me is what I know it as. With me, I’m cheap so it’s very easy to fall in love.”

Ruger further stated that it is possible for a man to love 5 different women.
“Yes. Recently Tems said that a lot of people confuse infatuation for love. So are you one of those people who say that they can fall in love but it’s really just infatuation?
“Me I can fall in love o … I’m very cheap, so, one dollar, you have me or even one shawarma. Buy me lunch or perfume or something, I’m materialistic, just like girls like being materialistic. If you just get me cakes or compliment me.”

When asked about his love life, Ruger revealed that his last romantic relationship lasted all but six months.
“It ended because she was assuming that I did something and I didn’t do anything, it ended based on an assumption,” Ruger said.
Artist Claims to be in Top 5 Most Talented Artists
Ruger asserts that Nigeria currently has less than five talented musicians.
According to the ‘Asiwaju’ hitmaker, most Nigerian artists are just singing for “cruise”.
However, he didn’t name the only talented Nigerian artists in his opinion.
“I’m not the biggest artiste in Nigeria but talent-wise, I’m standing somewhere there. We are not up to 5. I won’t say where I am on the list but I’m there. It’s not up to five. Most people are just singing for the cruise but we [the talented artists], we make music.”

Ruger stated he was shocked to find out that he has a large following in Israel.
He noted he sold out a 7,000-capacity venue in the country.
In 2021, Ruger rose to stardom under Jonzing World, a label owned by Nigerian singer D’Prince, which is an affiliate of Don Jazzy’s Mavin Records.
Ruger has won several awards for his craft. In 2021, he won the AFRIMA best newcomer award, and also the best new artiste category at the 2023 Soundcity MVP Awards.
“Asiwaju” peaked at number 1 on Nigeria’s Apple Music Top Songs chart and spent a record-breaking one month in the history of the chart.
