The People’s National Convention (PNC) has categorically refuted media reports suggesting that its immediate past National Chairman and Vice Chairman have defected to Alan Kyeremanteng’s Movement for Change.

In a press release signed by Honorable Moses Dani Baah, National Chairman and Prince Agyemang-Duah, the Acting General Secretary, the People’s National Convention described the allegations as false and misleading.

“The attention of the PNC has been drawn to widespread media publications claiming that an immediate past National Chairman and Vice have defected from the party to Alan Kyeremanteng’s Movement for Change. These media publications are false, misleading and a calculated attempt to hoodwink the unsuspecting public especially the members of the PNC into thinking that the PNC is divided”.

Suspension of Former Executives

Furthermore, the People’s National Convention, in its statement asserted that the purported defectors, one Bala Maikankan and Henry Haruna Asante, are part of a group of former executives recently suspended by the party.

The statement noted that the individuals’ suspensions were a result of their involvement in a protracted leadership conflict that had significantly hindered the party’s reorganization and progress since 2021.

According to the People’s National Convention, neither Maikankan nor Asante holds any official position that would qualify them as defecting executives.

Moreover, the People’s National Convention clarified that Bala Maikankan never held the position of Greater Accra Regional Chairman, and Henry Haruna Asante has no standing to claim any executive role within the party.

This misinformation, the People’s National Convention asserted is a deliberate attempt to deceive the public and create disaffection among its members.

Touching on the party’s commitment to foster unity and harmony ahead of the 2024 general elections, the statement recounted that the National Executive Committee of the People’s National Convention PNC convened in Accra for a meeting, where all national executives were present.

The statement noted that during the said meeting, the National Executive Committee of the party formulated a comprehensive roadmap to guide the party’s reorganization efforts in preparation for the upcoming 2024 elections.

In addition, the People’s National Convention leadership urged its members to disregard what it describes as deceptive reports and remain focused on the party’s reorganization efforts.

The statement emphasized the importance of unity and vigilance against any attempts by detractors to undermine the party’s progress and public image, underscoring the significance of adhering to the reorganization roadmap and maintaining solidarity within the party.

The National Chairman, Honorable Moses Dani Baah, and the Acting General Secretary Prince Agyemang-Duah concluded the statement by calling on the rank and file to stay committed to the party’s goals and not be swayed by false narratives.

They affirmed the People’s National Convention’s firm commitment to transparency and its determination to prevent any internal or external forces from disrupting its preparations for the upcoming December 7 general elections.

In an earlier development, eleven National Executive Committee members of the People’s National Convention (PNC) resigned from the party to form a new political entity christened the People’s National Party (PNP).

The decision according to the group was triggered by a contentious High Court ruling on April 8, which reinstated David Apasera as the party’s leader but upheld the suspension of General Secretary Janet Nabla over allegations of gross misconduct, insubordination, and incompetence.

Sulemana Seidu, the Interim General Secretary of the newly formed People’s National Party minced no words in articulating the group’s disappointments with the current People’s National Convention’s leadership, citing allegations of misconduct and lack of credibility.
