Mornah Responds To His Disqualification By EC

Bernard Mornah, PNC flagbearer

Flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC), Bernard Mornah, has responded to his disqualification by the Electoral Commission in the 2024 presidential race.

Mornah stated that the EC has no grounds for disqualifying him, as all errors on his forms were corrected.

He emphasized that his legal team has taken action by writing to the electoral commission, demanding a clear explanation for his disqualification from the 2024 elections.

The PNC flagbearer described the EC’s decision as unjust, emphasizing his need for transparency and accountability from the EC to ensure a fair electoral process.

“The EC received our forms on the 13th of September. By 12PM we had submitted our nomination forms and at 6:35 AM on Saturday I got a call from one Samuel…, I don’t know him, he said he had sent a letter from the EC that there were some anomalies with the forms. I counted about seven different pages and the EC claimed that we have some anomalies”.

“I immediately sent that the forms should be picked in accordance with the EC’s directive and the forms were completed on Saturday and returned. Mr. Samuel called that our forms had been rectified”.

Mornah further assured the public that he would fight this matter to the end, emphasizing his unwavering determination to not accept such disrespectful behavior.

He stressed that the PNC is resolute in its stance against the electoral commission’s apparent reluctance to adhere to established rules and standards.

Mornah expressed that the People’s National Congress (PNC) has not received an invitation to participate in the balloting process today, unlike other political parties.

As such, he indicated that he has instructed his legal team to investigate the reasons behind this omission.

He emphasized the importance of understanding the basis for the decision, as it impacts not only his candidacy but also the integrity of the entire electoral process.

EC’s Approach To Announcing Candidates Slammed

Furthermore, Bernard Mornah strongly criticized the Electoral Commission’s statement announcing the eligible participants, calling it “bogus.”

Mornah maintained that the EC’s approach to making the final decision was unclear and lacked transparency, leading to confusion and frustration among those who were excluded.

“I have been waiting patiently to print my materials urging my PCs across the country to print. Then yesternight I received a call from from a close friend that the EC said we had problems with our forms. I said we will rectify.”

Bernard Mornah

According to him, the agency failed to provide any feedback on the corrections he made, despite pointing them out earlier.

The PNC flagbearer indicated that he only learned about the status of her corrections when the statement was released on Friday, September 20.

This lack of communication, Mornah lamented, left him frustrated and questioning the transparency and efficiency of the EC’s processes.

The former General Secretary of the People’s National Convention was elected flagbearer of the party on September 8 to represent the party in the December 7 general elections.

Following his election, he filed his nomination at the EC’s office last week and expressed his confidence that the PNC would make a notable impact in the upcoming elections.

Meanwhile, the Electoral Commission (EC) on Friday, September 20 cleared thirteen candidates and declared them eligible to contest the December polls.

Out of the 24 presidential candidates who filed nominations last week, Bernard Monarh is amongst 11 candidates who have been disqualified by the EC.

A significant number of the disqualified candidates are independents. This trend, however, raised concerns about the fairness and inclusivity of the selection process.
