Prof. Gyampo’s Legal Team Demands Retraction and Apology from NPP’s Mustapha

NPP Youth Sounds Alarm On Mahama’s Comeback

Salam Mustapha

Prof. Ransford Gyampo’s legal team has requested that Salam Mustapha of the NPP issue an unreserved retraction and apology to Prof. Gyampo within 48 hours for the damage caused to his reputation and standing within the community.

They further demanded that Mustapha ensure his retraction and apology receive the same level of prominence as the initial press statement, which they assert contained unjust and damaging accusations against their client.

“If you do not cause to be published a retraction and apology in a manner above stated, we have the firm instructions of our client to institute legal action against you and the NPP without any further formal or informal notice Please be accordingly informed.

“Your letter contained categorical allegations of improper conduct and motives against our respected client, a professor of Political Science at the University of Ghana, including his deliberate and malicious efforts to prolong the ongoing strike by the University Teachers’ Association of Ghana (UTAG) for personal political gain”.

The solicitors noted that Salam Mustapha, without any evidence, alleged that their client’s support for the UTAG strike was not motivated by the harm caused by illegal mining or public concerns.

They indicated that instead, the NPP loyalists claimed it is driven by a desire to benefit the opposition NDC in the upcoming December polls.

They further stated that Mustapha accused Prof. Gyampo of being motivated by the prospect of a future political appointment from the NDC’s presidential candidate, John Mahama.

The Solicitors pointed out that Mustapha wrongfully alleged that Prof. Gyanpo prioritized his ambition over the welfare of students and parents. “Your letter also alleges that members of UTAG are rolling parts in a scheme and artifice by our client and his goons in the NDC” to satisfy his personal political interest”.

They also highlighted that Salam Mustapha further made categorical and defamatory claims against their client.

According to them, he alleged that their client has gained a dubious international reputation for student abuse, exploiting them for grades.

The legal team noted that Mustapha also urged student groups like NUGS and USAG to “exercise good judgment” by resisting involvement in what he described as their client’s “immoral enterprise.”

Legal Team for Prof. Gyampo Condemns Serious Allegations

Furthermore, Prof. Gyampo’s legal team noted that these are grave allegations against their client, who holds significant local and international respect as a distinguished academic.

They emphasized the seriousness of making such claims without any supporting evidence.

The team expressed surprise that a political officer of Mustapha’s standing showed no restraint or responsibility when making these accusations.

“To be sure, our client has never been found liable at the conclusion of any proceedings of censure to have traded grades for sex. A simple inquiry at the university where our client works would have established this and averted such a monumental mischief.

“Further, it is disrespectful of the entire membership of UTAG to suggest that their processes of decision-making are so perverted that one man, our client, controls them. This cannot be the case for an organization of academics”.

The solicitors emphasized that Salam Mustapha’s defamatory statement, laden with serious accusations, did more than harm their client’s personal reputation.

According to them, by issuing the statement on his political party’s official letterhead, Mustapha gave it the weight and endorsement of his party, further fueling its reach and credibility in the eyes of the public.

The legal team asserted that this, coupled with the extensive dissemination across electronic and social media with international access, has only intensified the damage to their client’s standing.

Given the scale of harm inflicted on their client’s carefully built reputation—both locally and globally—the solicitors insist that an immediate and unequivocal apology is not only appropriate but also essential to restoring his character.
