The Member of Parliament for North Tongu Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has slammed the NPP over its loss in the just ended Presidential elections.

He looked into issues ranging from campaign strategies to corruption scandals, underscoring the importance of governance that truly reflects the needs of the populace.

“It got to a point; it was as if the Ghanaian voter doesn’t matter. They kept saying, ‘Oh, we’ll win with strategy. Forget about what the people are saying. Really? Strategy? The people don’t matter? You see where you are today? Where is the strategy?”

According to him, this approach resulted in an ineffective campaign filled with superficial performances instead of substantive policies.

“See the kind of campaign they mounted—a song and dance campaign, a ‘Sisi fiaa’ campaign. No wonder they’ve ended up with a ‘Sisi fiaa’ minority in parliament.”

Hon. Ablakwa did not hold back in describing the socio-economic challenges faced by Ghanaians under the NPP administration. He referenced findings from the Afrobarometer report to highlight the public’s suffering.

“According to the Afrobarometer, 41% of Ghanaians polled said they go to bed hungry every day. Unemployment, financial haircuts, and corruption have become the defining features of this government. Trust in the presidency is at a historic low of 28%.”

He also criticized the arrogance displayed by the NPP government. He queried;

“You had a president ordering chiefs to get up and greet him. None of them advised him to stop. Chiefs are custodians of our traditions. This arrogance is unacceptable.”

Hon. Ablakwa viewed the current political climate as a golden opportunity for the National Democratic Congress (NDC). He added;

”If we do things right by the people, govern well, and focus on their needs, we can stay in power for 20 to 30 years. The people are not asking for much—stop corruption, end state capture, and take good care of us.”

Hon. Ablakwa turned his attention to corruption scandals under the NPP, He highlighted a very key national issue. He charged;

“Over $1 million was found under Cecilia Dapaah’s bed. Is that a campaign gimmick? Where did that money come from? Then the President issues a love letter: ‘My dear Cecilia Dapaah, you will be vindicated.”

He cited the Commission on Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) report on the National Cathedral. He lamented;

“The CHRAJ report states clearly that the whole project is illegal. There are reasonable grounds to suspect corruption, and the procurement laws of our country were not followed.”

Accountability and Leadership

Hon. Ablakwa emphasized the need for accountability in addressing corruption, noting the flight of individuals implicated in high-profile scandals.

“I have here the travel documents of the $108 million ambulance scandal. The president daughter’s business partners fled the country. Stephen Okereke Elendu Kalu Okoro fled on 27th November 2024 and hasn’t returned. Frank Agyekum Boateng left the day before 26th November 2024 at 10: 31pm to Washington with United Airlines Flight 3010. Then Vivian Oppong Kyekyeku also left a few days after I petitioned the Office of Special Prosecutor on 31st August 2024.’’

According to him, the NDC’s Operation Recover All Loot (ORAL) would expose all these individuals involved in corruption scandals.

He pointed out that some corrupt individuals in the NPP government have become dollar millionaires overnight through deals like the $108 million inflated ambulance contracts meanwhile Ghanaians are struggling to survive.

In conclusion, Hon. Ablakwa called on the NDC to learn from the failures of the NPP and prioritize the needs of Ghanaians.

He emphasized that Lessons ought to be learned. He added that the horror that Ghanaians have been put through over the last eight years is a warning.

Through his passionate critique, Hon. Ablakwa underscored the importance of accountability, governance, and putting the people first in Ghana’s political journey.
