The Director of IT and Elections for the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Dr Edward Omane Boamah has accused the Electoral Commission of Ghana of colluding with the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) to subvert the will of the Ghanaian people following the party’s historic victory in the 2024 general elections.

Dr Omane Boamah, in a strong statement, underscored the NDC’s resolve to defend parliamentary seats won in the December 7 elections and to resist any attempts at what he called “illegal re-collation, re-counting, or re-declaration” of results.

“Defend all Parliamentary seats won! No truer words! If the results had been close, this criminal and incompetent Electoral Commission Ghana would have stolen the verdict for the NPP. Check how they’re struggling to complete the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections”.

He questioned the rationale behind the re-collation of parliamentary results, alleging that ballot papers for the Eastern and Western Regions were reprinted ahead of the Special Voting Day without a credible explanation.

“Why re-collate parliamentary results? Who stole the ballot paper(s) that led to the reprinting of the ballots for Eastern and Western regions in advance of Special Voting day? The answers will be out soon,” Dr. Omane Boamah stated, urging Ghanaians to maintain vigilance over the actions of the EC and the ruling party.

In another statement, Dr Omane Boamah announced that the NDC had initiated legal action against the EC to prevent it from proceeding with what he described as illegal activities.

He further alleged the existence of loose pink sheets—critical documents in the election process—that he claimed are being manipulated to facilitate the EC’s actions.

“This is an Electoral Commission that refused to cross and cancel unused pink sheets when I demanded. Are you surprised loose pink sheets are floating around to aid the illegal re-collation and re-declaration as the NPP is demanding?”.

Dr. Omane Boamah recounted past incidents that, in his view, demonstrate the EC’s susceptibility to irregularities.  He accused EC officials of breaking promises, such as their commitment not to use pen markers as indelible ink, only to use them in some polling stations during the elections.

His criticism extended to specific constituencies, particularly Ablekuma North, where he demanded explanations for alleged electoral malpractices on the night of December 7.

Amid the controversy, Dr. Omane Boamah called on National Democratic Congress supporters to remain steadfast in defending parliamentary seats won by the party in the just-ended general elections. “Defend all Parliamentary seats won! No truer words!” he declared, emphasizing the party’s commitment to safeguarding its victories from alleged manipulation.

He also warned that individuals complicit in the alleged irregularities would face legal consequences after January 7, 2025, when he anticipates a change in government. “Every criminal actor in this process will face the full rigour of the law,” he stated.

Meanwhile, Dr. Omane Boamah urged all citizens to keep a watchful eye on the EC and the NPP, using the hashtag #EAGLEEYES to galvanize collective vigilance.
