The Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) has strongly refuted allegations circulating in a viral audio recording on social media, claiming that a civilian pick-up truck was allowed into the Magazine premises at the 5 Battalion of Infantry to transport ammunition boxes to an undisclosed location.

In a press release issued by the Department of Public Relations at GAF’s General Headquarters, Burma Camp, the military assured the public that the claims were entirely false.

“GAF wishes to assure the public that the information on the said audio is false and should be treated with the contempt it deserves. The vehicle that entered the Magazine premises was there to deliver a newly acquired live cow to be quarantined, before being relocated to the kraal which is adjacent to the Magazine.”

GAF emphasized the importance of verifying information before dissemination, cautioning against spreading falsehoods that could lead to unnecessary fear and panic, especially during the festive period.

The statement called on individuals and groups to exercise due diligence and seek clarification directly from GAF’s Department of Public Relations whenever in doubt about security-related issues.

“Such actions tend to create unnecessary tension and also cause fear and panic in the country,” the release warned, adding that deliberate or inadvertent attempts to disrupt national peace should be avoided.

Open Channels for Verification

The Armed Forces reiterated its commitment to transparency and encouraged the public to utilize open communication channels for inquiries.

The release noted, “Our doors are always open,” urging citizens to contact the Department of Public Relations for accurate information about the institution.

Reaffirming its role as the cornerstone of national security, GAF pledged its unwavering dedication to protecting the sovereignty and stability of Ghana.

The press release, signed by Brigadier General E. Aggrey-Quashie, Director General of Public Relations, concluded with an appeal to media outlets to publish the statement to set the record straight responsibly.

For further inquiries, the public is encouraged to contact GAF via telephone at +233-544338030 or email at website-dpr@ghq.mail.gh.

This incident highlights the pervasive nature of misinformation in the digital age and its potential to undermine public trust in national institutions.

GAF’s swift response underscores the importance of clear communication to dispel false narratives and maintain public confidence in the nation’s security apparatus.

The Ghana Armed Forces called on all stakeholders to act responsibly and support efforts to safeguard the peace and stability of the country.
