“I, John Dramani Mahama, do in the name of the Almighty God swear that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the Republic of Ghana, as by law established; that I will uphold the sovereignty and integrity of Ghana, and that I will preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana. “I, John Dramani Mahama, having been elected to the High office of the President of the Republic of Ghana, do in the name of the Almighty God swear that I will be faithful and truthful to the Republic of Ghana; that I will at all times preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the Republic of Ghana; and I dedicate myself to the service and well-being of the people of the Republic of Ghana and to do right to all manner of persons. I further solemnly swear that should I at any time break this oath of office, I shall submit myself to the laws of the Republic of Ghana and suffer the penalty for it. So, help me, God.”

After taking the oaths, the Chief Justice congratulated H.E John Dramani Mahama officially confirming him as the President of the Republic. To finalize the legal process, John Dramani Mahama took the state sword and lifted it high, symbolizing his pledge to uphold the Constitution and serve the people of Ghana with integrity and dedication amid Jubilation and celebration from Ghanaians.
The event was held as a parliamentary sitting, following constitutional and parliamentary protocols. The ceremony was attended by a distinguished gathering of global dignitaries, highlighting Ghana’s significant standing on the international stage.
In total, 21 Heads of State from Africa and beyond, three Vice Presidents, four former African leaders, and several Ministers of State from various countries were present.
The broad and prestigious attendance of these leaders underscored the global solidarity and esteem Ghana enjoys.
Members of the diplomatic corps, traditional leaders, civil society representatives, and thousands of enthusiastic citizens also participated, eager to witness this historic occasion.
