Olivetheboy Reveals Reason He Featured Sarkodie on Song

Afrobeats artist and songwriter, Olivetheboy, has opened up about rapper Sarkodie and why he featured him on ‘Bend’, one of the songs on his newly released EP ‘Out of the Blue’.

The musician stated that he featured Sarkodie on ‘Bend’ because of the bond that existed between the two of them.

“Sarkodie is somebody who loved me and my work before and during ‘Asylum’ time. So, after writing the first verse to close off ‘Bend’, I felt there had to be somebody on it, like a rapper. Nobody could have done it better than Sarkodie. We went to the studio and worked on a couple of songs, actually, but ‘Bend’ is the one I wanted to put in the EP.”

Olivetheboy further hinted at releasing other songs with the rapper in the future.

The fast-rising musician also spoke about the inspiration behind his new EP, sharing that most of the songs are about his love life.

Olivetheboy had his breakthrough in the industry in 2023 with his hit song ‘Goodsin’, which earned him nominations at the 2024 Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA).

Unfortunately, he did not win in that category. This year, he has been nominated for Most Popular Song of the Year (for Asylum) and Best Afrobeats/Afro pop Artist of the Year, and he is optimistic about winning in all categories.

He urged all Ghanaians to continue voting massively and supporting him to win all his nominations.

Meanwhile, his newly released EP, Out of the Blue, contains singles like Trees, One Bebe, Tattoo, and Design. He has also collaborated with celebrated artists like Sarkodie, Qing Madi, and Nigerian Mayorkun on songs such as Bend, Survivor, and A Fuul, respectively.

The Ghanaian artist expressed his thoughts on the conversation about Ghanaian artists sounding Nigerian.

While admitting that he is one of the Ghanaian artists who sound Nigerian, he indicated that it is not a new phenomenon.

“I think now people accept change, when you look at most of the songs and most of the genres wey them come from, there was some tapping from somewhere, that’s how come there was that conversation about Afrobeat, coming or growing from highlife.”

Olivetheboy

He emphasised that borrowing languages from other influences is inevitable.

“To me, it is all about accepting that there has to be some tapping from somewhere. It was not even intentional before, but now it’s very intentional because you’re not trying to only do music, yes! We want to project Ghana, but we’re not only doing that by making music for people down here alone. You’re trying to intentionally do something that, in a way, projects Ghana, doesn’t only project Ghana to Ghana, you understand? That means you have to tap in from somewhere, something that somebody understands and relates to.”

Olivetheboy

Olivetheboy believes using other languages will help his audience understand and connect with his music. “That is why I’m not afraid of tapping into that market and using their language, and I am not afraid of doing that, because in a way they will understand it,” he added.

Moreover, the Ghanaian afrobeats star declared that he is off the market and not interested in extramarital affairs.

He replied to the comment of a female fan who asked about his relationship status. The fan’s message read, “Please ask Olive if his female fans should forget about him after he posted his girlfriend online.”

The singer replied, saying, “They should support me, because they can’t forget me like that. I am a married man of God.”

When asked if this means that female fans can’t pursue him anymore, he replied, “If they want to date me, they will die. I am a married man.”

The singer didn’t elaborate much on the matter; however, these questions come on the heels of his recent online posts that featured and announced his girlfriend.

Most female fans expressed shock as he posted and tagged his lover in a video she made about the singer sweeping her off her feet with lavish gifts on her birthday. The two broke the internet after they posted each other on social media, affirming their love affair.
