Award-winning Nigerian music star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has revealed that he would have pursued a career in journalism if he hadn’t become a musician.

The “Unavailable” crooner made the revelation during a recent interview, where he explained why he is more active in media promotions and press appearances compared to many of his peers in the industry.

“I like promo, I like conversations. A lot of people don’t know that I studied marketing apart from business management. I like to market myself, I love to talk. If I had a podcast, I would talk for like three to four days [laughs].”

He emphasized the importance of media engagements in building an artist’s brand and noted that, unlike some big artists who avoid the press, he embraces it because he genuinely enjoys conversation and gaining information. “If I weren’t doing music, I would definitely be in journalism,” he added.

The sensational artist also addressed public curiosity about his massive social media following, stating that his visibility and engagement stem from deliberate effort and consistency.

“A lot of people in my position would just sit down and let everything work for them. People are asking me why I have the most followers, it’s because I’m working. I know how hard Beyoncé works with all the money she has.”

The artist revealed his intentions to invite Bright Chimezie to Lagos for a private meeting in order to pay tribute to the music great in person, further expressing his respect and adoration.

The ‘Aye’ crooner’s dedication to recognising the accomplishments of trailblazing musicians who have influenced the Nigerian music scene is demonstrated by this gesture.
