MTN Ghana has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering superior network experiences to its customers in the Eastern Region through a significant investment of $250 million earmarked for network expansion and enhancement projects in 2025.
This announcement was made at the MTN Media and Stakeholder Forum held in Koforidua, where key stakeholders and media personalities gathered to receive updates on the company’s operational strides and community engagements.
Speaking at the event, MTN’s Senior Manager for Corporate Communications, Mrs. Georgina Asare Fiagbenu, emphasized the importance of customer-centric innovations. She assured customers of MTN’s readiness to deliver reliable services that support both individual users and businesses, particularly through its extensive use of advanced technologies and sustainable development strategies.
Empowering Communities Through Corporate Social Responsibility
Mrs. Fiagbenu also shed light on the transformative impact MTN has made in local communities. She cited the MTN Bright Scholarship, which continues to support brilliant but needy students, and MTN’s employee volunteering programs that provide youth training in digital skills, including mobile phone repair and IT literacy.
Further reinforcing MTN’s role in national development, she highlighted MTN’s ‘Doing for Planet’ sustainability campaign and the company’s Skills Academy – a digital training platform aimed at preparing young Ghanaians for the future of work. “Our digital platforms are not just tools but enablers of transformation,” she noted.

Mr. Samuel Duku, Network Field Services Manager for Eastern and Volta Regions, announced that MTN has deployed over 5,000 network sites across the country. According to him, 87.5% of MTN’s data traffic is now carried on advanced 4G technology, ensuring faster internet speeds and improved service delivery.
He also revealed that approximately 130 kilometers of fibre optic infrastructure is being relocated this year to reinforce network resilience and to meet growing demand. “This initiative will significantly expand our capacity, paving the way for next-generation services that will empower both individuals and businesses,” Mr. Duku stated. Additionally, MTN is extending coverage to five previously underserved communities, with ongoing work at various stages of completion.
Boosting SME Growth Through Mobile Money and Digital Services
Faisal Ali, Manager for MobileMoney Channel Development, highlighted how MTN is leveraging its fintech platform to drive financial inclusion and economic empowerment. He emphasized that MTN’s data offers and mobile financial services give both individual customers and SMEs the tools to trade beyond geographical limits.
“Our platform enables small businesses to expand their reach, gain access to micro-financing, and engage in safer, more efficient transactions,” Ali explained. He added that the MobileMoney ecosystem continues to grow with innovative features aimed at enhancing user experience and business resilience.
The forum also saw representatives from government and regulatory bodies commending MTN’s continuous engagement efforts. The Eastern Regional representative of the National Communications Authority (NCA) applauded MTN for its proactive stakeholder engagement, noting that it helps shape policy and enhances industry development.

Deputy Commander of the Eastern Regional Police, ACP Richard Appiah, reiterated the police service’s support in safeguarding MobileMoney vendors through community education on personal security and crime prevention. He emphasized ongoing efforts to reduce incidents of armed robbery targeting MoMo agents.
Additionally, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) for New Juaben North, Hon. Adongo, pledged the Assembly’s cooperation in fighting cable theft – a major cause of service disruptions. “We are committed to working with MTN to protect critical telecom infrastructure for the benefit of our communities,” he assured.
The MTN Media and Stakeholder Forum is an annual initiative designed to keep stakeholders informed about MTN’s plans, challenges, and accomplishments. So far in 2025, the forum has been held in five out of Ghana’s sixteen regions, with the company aiming to complete the tour by year’s end.
This forum remains a key platform for dialogue between MTN and its customers, government institutions, and media partners – all geared toward the ultimate goal of delivering seamless, secure, and empowering digital experiences to Ghanaians.
