  • Total number of test conducted as at July 13th  2020,  339,491
  • The number of recoveries  22,270 recoveries/discharge. Number of Deaths 139

The Greater Accra region continues to lead with over 14,000 of the total cases confirmed in the country followed by the Ashanti and Western Regions.

North East region has the least cases of (9) followed by Savannah region (57) Upper west region  (71)

The Ghana Health Service has started to see some light at the end of the tunnel in the fight to obliterate the novel Coronavirus.

According to The service’s Director-General, Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye, during a press briefing on Thursday, July 16, the data suggests that the seven-day moving average of recorded cases was declining. He made plain that accurate data on containing the virus will be known after the backlog of samples is cleared next week.

Dr. Patrick Kuma-Aboagye is optimistic of a downward trend.

“Because we are not able to do a daily count of the cases we test, we do a seven-day average which gives us the real averages of the number of cases per day as we move,” he explained.

“We can see that from the middle towards the end of June, there was a steep rise. In the last one or so weeks, we have seen a decline. We only see the great picture when all the backlog, which we started clearing last week, is completed,” Dr. Kuma-Aboagye added.

High rate of Infection at the front line

The Greater Accra Region is also leading the chart of the number of health workers to have tested positive for COVID-19.

According to the Ghana Health Service, the Greater Accra Region accounts for 588 cases out of the 2,065 health workers infected in all regions

But 536 of these have recovered and returned to work in the region, whiles three have died and 49 are still recovering.

The Ahafor Region has 24 health worker infections, the Ashanti Region has 245 health worker infections are the Bono East Region has 88 health worker infections recorded.

The minister of Information, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah gave credence to the fact that there was a steep decline in numbers but also stressed the importance of maintaining strict hygienic protocols.

However, as we go about our daily routines, let’s make it a point to compliment the efforts of the Government in controlling the spread of the coronavirus. We should wear our nose masks, wash our hands intermittently with soap and under running water, and observe social distancing. Let’s win together.
