Hon. Eric Edem Agbana has dismissed suggestions that he is the “messiah” of the Ketu North constituency, attributing all glory to Jesus Christ and describing himself simply as a servant committed to the development of his people.

In a wide-ranging engagement, directly addressing the popular moniker that some constituents have begun associating with him, the Member of Parliament expressed humility despite the accolades and recognition he has received since assuming office.

“I do not think that I am the Ketu North messiah; only Jesus Christ is the Messiah. I am only a servant, doing my best for my people”

“One thing about me is I don’t let that get into my head,” the MP said, explaining that while various labels such as “best MP” or “Ketu North Messiah” have been thrown his way, he consciously resists letting them affect his focus.

He added that allowing such labels to influence his mindset would risk distracting him from the mandate the electorate has given him.

Hon. Agbana was clear that he remains deeply connected with the people of Ketu North and that nothing has changed about his relationship with them since becoming MP. “Those who work with me will tell you that I’m still the same,” he insisted.

He described his approach to community engagement as personal and transparent. According to him, he maintains an open-door policy at his residence in the constituency and engages freely with constituents seeking support.

The MP noted with appreciation that the chiefs and the people of Ketu North, including members of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the area, have commended his efforts. He emphasized that the progress being made is a collective effort, not his alone. “I do it with a team.”

A Strong Legacy

Hon. Agbana credited his predecessors for laying a solid foundation upon which he is building. Describing what they did as leaving behind a united constituency.

“They initiated several impactful projects. I am committed to continuing his legacy and building on the solid foundation he laid,” he affirmed.

Reflecting on the state of the constituency, he described Ketu North as a place where all stakeholders – traditional leaders, local authorities, and residents – are united in their desire for development.

He traced the solid roots of the constituency back to both the late Hon. Modestus Yawo Zebu Ahiable and the immediate past MP, Hon. Dr. James Klutse Avedzi.

On his personal and political relationship with Dr. James Klutse Avedzi, Hon. Agbana described it as one based on mutual respect and frequent consultation. Although he downplayed the idea of a political godfather, he acknowledged Dr. Avedzi’s immense influence and experience.

“I consult him on many issues,” he stated. Agbana disclosed that he often visits the office of Dr. Avedzi, who is currently the Director General at the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), whenever he faces challenges or needs guidance.

He praised his predecessor’s long service in Parliament, which he described as a source of valuable institutional memory.
Hon. Agbana reaffirmed that their relationship remains strong and productive. “We get along very, very well, and we’re working together,” he said.
