Family Opens Condolence Book for Daddy Lumba

The family of the late highlife legend, Charles Kwadwo Fosu, popularly known as Daddy Lumba, has announced plans to honour his memory with a Book of Condolence and a candlelight vigil.

In a statement issued through their legal representatives, Baba Jamal & Associates, the Fosu family expressed deep appreciation to the public for the overwhelming support received since Daddy Lumba’s passing on Saturday, July 26, 2025, after a short illness.

As part of the commemorative activities, the family has opened a Book of Condolence at the late musician’s private residence located at House Number 12, Kinshasha Crescent (GA-332-9264). The public is invited to pay their respects beginning Tuesday, July 29, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. daily.

In addition, a candlelight vigil is scheduled to take place on Saturday, August 2, 2025, at Independence Square in Accra.

The solemn event, which will begin at 6:00 p.m., is being organized under the auspices of the Creative Arts Agency and will bring together fans, fellow musicians, and dignitaries to celebrate the life and legacy of the iconic artist. “On behalf of the Creative Arts Agency, we warmly invite you to attend a National Candlelight Vigil in memory of the late Daddy Lumba, Ghana’s Highlife music legend,” the statement read.

The event will be part of a global tribute to Daddy Lumba, with simultaneous ceremonies expected to be held in Ghana, Germany, the United Kingdom, the United States, and the Netherlands.

The Agency noted that the vigil will not only honour Daddy Lumba’s enduring legacy but also serve as a moment of national reflection—celebrating the unifying power of music, culture, and community.

Participants are encouraged to RSVP by July 31, 2025, to confirm attendance.

The family has also asked the public to respect their privacy during this period of mourning, adding that details of the final funeral arrangements will be communicated in due course.

Daddy Lumba remains one of Ghana’s most celebrated musicians, and the upcoming activities are expected to draw hundreds who wish to honour his immense contribution to the music industry.

Following the passing of Highlife legend Charles Kojo Fosu, fans across the country and beyond continue to mourn the loss of a cultural icon whose music defined generations.

Amid the outpouring of tributes and reflections, a rare gem has resurfaced – the original cassette of Lumba’s classic song “Biribi Gyegye Wo.”

The throwback item was shared in a heartfelt Facebook post by veteran broadcaster Klaus Von Backustein, sparking a wave of nostalgia among fans.

The image of the well-preserved cassette tape instantly transported many back to an era when Lumba’s songs dominated airwaves, cassettes were prized possessions, and music was deeply personal.

“Biribi Gyegye Wo” is one of Daddy Lumba’s early hits that helped solidify his name in the Highlife scene, known for its emotional depth and signature blend of rhythm and storytelling.

As tributes continue to pour in, items like this cassette serve as powerful symbols of his timeless legacy a reminder that while Daddy Lumba may be gone, his music continues to live in the hearts and homes of those who grew up with it.
