Ghanaian actor, filmmaker and musician Kwadwo Nkansah, popularly known as Lilwin, has publicly praised rapper Medikal for showing professionalism and humility by offering to create a soundtrack for his upcoming international movie A Journey to Africa at no cost.
In a video circulating widely on social media this week, Lilwin expressed appreciation after Medikal reached out to inquire about the film’s concept and volunteered to produce a song for the project. The gesture followed an earlier open call by Lilwin inviting any interested artiste to contribute a soundtrack for the production.
Lilwin described Medikal as highly respectful and credited the rapper’s approach for his continued rise in the industry, calling him one of the realest talents in Ghanaian hip-hop.
The development comes as production on A Journey to Africa (also referred to as A Journey to Africa (Nzulezu)) gains momentum. The film is Lilwin’s second major cross-border collaboration after his 2024 project A Country Called Ghana, which featured Nigerian stars including Ramsey Nouah, Charles Awurum and Victor Osuagwu. That earlier film premiered at Accra’s National Theatre and later expanded to screenings in Kumasi and beyond, even reaching in-flight entertainment on Ethiopian Airlines.
For the new project, Lilwin has assembled a high-profile Nollywood cast. Veteran actors Patience Ozokwor (Mama G), Kanayo O. Kanayo, Mike Ezuruonye, Destiny Etiko, Charles Awurum and Zubby Michael arrived in Ghana at the end of September 2026. Lilwin personally welcomed them at Accra’s Kotoka International Airport.
Filming is expected to include locations in Accra and the unique stilt village of Nzulezu (Nzulezo) in Ghana’s Western Region, a cultural and tourism landmark built over the Amansuri wetland.
Lilwin has positioned A Journey to Africa as an ambitious production aimed at attracting audiences across West Africa and further afield. He has outlined premiere plans starting at the National Theatre in Accra, followed by screenings in Kumasi (including KNUST venues) and opportunities for regional promoters.
International showings, including in the United Kingdom, are also under consideration so that more stakeholders can benefit commercially.
In recent comments, Lilwin has spoken about the challenges of mounting such a large-scale film, including the financial pressures of engaging established Nigerian talent. He has also defended the involvement of bloggers on set, clarifying that promotional content is carefully managed and that actual scenes are not being leaked.
The actor has repeatedly called for industry support, stating that collaboration between Ghanaian and Nigerian performers can help revitalise local cinema.
Medikal, whose real name is Samuel Adu Frimpong, is a well-established Ghanaian rapper known for his rapid-fire delivery, clever wordplay and blend of hip-hop with local slang and Pidgin. Born in 1993 or 1994 in Sowutuom, Accra, he rose through the ranks after signing with Criss Waddle’s AMG (Arab Money Gang) label.
Hits and collaborations have earned him multiple awards and nominations at the Ghana Music Awards, including recognition as a top hip-hop and rap artiste. He has previously worked with Lilwin on tracks such as “Sor Me So” (2019) and the star-studded “Didi Matem” (2020), which also featured Kofi Mole, Joey B, Fameye and others.

The free soundtrack offer has been widely interpreted in Ghanaian entertainment circles as a show of mutual respect between two long-time industry figures. Medikal’s decision to contact Lilwin directly about the concept rather than simply submitting a track has been highlighted as professional courtesy.
Public Reaction
Fans and commentators on platforms including X have described the move as evidence of Medikal’s humility and ongoing commitment to supporting fellow creatives.
Soundtracks have long played an important role in Lilwin’s career. He has previously claimed that songs attached to movies he starred in, such as “Metanfo” and “Big Boy Weezy,” achieved rare levels of popularity in Ghana, helping both the films and his own profile. A new contribution from a high-profile rapper like Medikal could further boost the visibility of A Journey to Africa.

As production continues, the collaboration adds another layer of cross-genre interest to a project already drawing attention for its Ghana-Nigeria cast. Lilwin has urged the public and media to focus on supporting the film rather than generating controversy, emphasising the potential for the production to create opportunities and raise the profile of African storytelling.
What is already clear is that the rapper’s proactive and generous approach has earned genuine praise from one of Kumawood’s most prominent figures, highlighting the value of respect and collaboration in Ghana’s entertainment industry.
