In what can only be described as a chilling and unusual tragedy, a seemingly minor road incident spiraled into a fatal accident, leaving three people dead in the Edwenase area of Kwadaso, Kumasi.
The accident, which occurred on July 28, 2025, has left many Ghanaians stunned—not just by the loss of life, but by the circumstances surrounding it.
According to initial reports, the driver involved in the crash was pursuing a tricycle (commonly referred to as Aboboyaa) that had earlier scratched his vehicle.
Rather than de-escalating the situation, the driver chose to chase after the tricycle—an act that ultimately led to his death and that of two others who were passengers in his car.
In a post shared on Instagram, the driver crashed into a parked commercial vehicle at a sharp curve.

What started as a minor fender bender turned into a full-speed pursuit through the streets of Kwadaso. Eyewitnesses and social media posts indicate that the driver became enraged after the tricycle allegedly scratched his car.

In a fit of anger, he began chasing the much smaller, slower vehicle through a residential area.
But in a cruel twist of fate, as he reached a sharp curve near Edwenase, he lost control of his vehicle. The car veered off the road and slammed into a parked commercial vehicle with devastating force.
Inside the car were the driver’s grandmother and her caregiver, both of whom also lost their lives in the crash. None of the victims survived the impact.
The bizarre nature of the incident—sparked by what many consider an insignificant traffic scrape—has sparked conversations across social media and within the Kumasi community.
Locals described the scene as heartbreaking and surreal, as emergency responders worked to retrieve the lifeless bodies from the wreckage.
Ghana, like many other countries, is no stranger to road accidents. But this case serves as a startling example of how unchecked emotions behind the wheel lead to irreversible consequences.
The idea that someone would prioritize retribution over reason—especially with vulnerable passengers in the car—has left many deeply unsettled.
Road Safety Concerns

This tragic accident highlights the pressing need for greater enforcement of traffic laws and more robust education about road safety.
Reckless driving and dangerous pursuits are a recipe for disaster, especially on roads shared by vulnerable road users like tricycle operators.
Road safety experts emphasize that all road users, regardless of their vehicle type, deserve respect and caution from others.
High-speed chases or aggressive driving not only endanger those involved but also innocent bystanders and other motorists.
While authorities continue to investigate the incident, the lesson is painfully clear: reckless behavior, especially on the road, destroys lives in seconds.
It’s a sobering reminder to all drivers that patience and self-control are not just virtues—they are lifesaving necessities.
There is also a growing call for public education campaigns to address road rage and promote emotional discipline among drivers.
Minor altercations on the road should never escalate into life-threatening situations, and communities must work together to cultivate a culture of calm, safety, and mutual respect on the roads.
The tragedy at Edwenase is more than just an unfortunate accident—it is a haunting story of how human error, pride, and a split-second decision can unravel lives.
As the Kwadaso community mourns, Ghanaians across the country are urged to reflect on how such a small incident led to such a massive loss.
This heartbreaking event should serve as a national wake-up call—not only about the dangers of reckless driving but also about the deadly cost of letting emotions take control of the wheel.
