The Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme (rCOMSDEP) has denounced the activities of individuals and groups who are allegedly using the Secretariat’s name to extort money from miners and others, promising to facilitate access to mineralized areas for responsible cooperative mining.

According to the Secretariat’s press release signed by its National Coordinator, Ing. Frank Asare, esq., the said move is fraudulent and should be accorded as such.

The rCOMSDEP, a government-backed initiative aimed at promoting sustainable and responsible small-scale mining practices, has categorically stated that it does not have any authorized agents and has not sanctioned any such individuals or groups to conduct miner registration or concession allocation on its behalf.

The Responsible Cooperative Mining and Skills Development Programme’s (rCOMSDEP) decisive action in issuing this warning reflects a clear indication of its commitment to maintaining transparency and integrity within the small-scale mining sector.

The Secretariat has made it abundantly clear that it will not tolerate any unauthorized individuals or groups attempting to exploit the public in its name.

“We want to state clearly that rCOMSDEP does not have agents and has not authorised any individuals or groups in any region to conduct registration of miners for the Responsible Cooperative Mining Scheme,” Asare emphasized, underscoring the Secretariat’s direct approach in addressing this issue.

The rCOMSDEP has also issued a stern warning to those engaged in these fraudulent activities, stating that “anyone caught engaging in these activities will be arrested, prosecuted, and punished according to the laws of Ghana.”

This strong stance reflects the Secretariat’s determination to protect the integrity of its programs and safeguard the interests of legitimate miners and the broader mining community.

The rCOMSDEP’s efforts to combat fraudulent activities are closely linked to its broader mission of fostering responsible and sustainable small-scale mining practices in Ghana. As a key player in the mining and extractives sector, the Secretariat has been at the forefront of implementing innovative programs that empower local communities and promote environmental stewardship.

Through its Responsible Cooperative Mining Scheme, the rCOMSDEP  targets to provide small-scale miners with access to mineralized areas, technical support, and skills development opportunities.

This holistic approach not only enhances the miners’ productivity and profitability but also ensures that their operations align with environmental regulations and best industry practices.

By addressing the issue of fraudulent actors, the rCOMSDEP is safeguarding the integrity of its initiatives and ensuring that the benefits of responsible cooperative mining are channeled directly to the intended beneficiaries.

This proactive stance reinforces the Secretariat’s commitment to building a mining industry that is transparent, equitable, and environmentally conscious.

The rCOMSDEP’s swift and unequivocal response to the reported fraudulent activities serves to bolster public confidence in the Secretariat’s operations.

By clearly distinguishing itself from the unscrupulous individuals and groups, the Secretariat is reinforcing its reputation as a trustworthy and reliable partner in the mining sector.

This level of transparency and accountability is crucial in fostering a positive perception of the rCOMSDEP’s work and encouraging miners and the general public to engage with the Secretariat’s programs.

While the mining and extractives community particularly the small-scale mining industry closely demonstrates interest in these developments, the rCOMSDEP’s decisive actions will be seen as a testament to its commitment to upholding the highest standards of integrity and good governance.
