President John Dramani Mahama has departed Accra for a series of high-level international engagements, beginning with meetings in the United Kingdom and culminating in his participation at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.

The trip forms part of the administration’s broader diplomatic and economic strategy aimed at advancing Ghana’s reset agenda and strengthening international partnerships in support of national development.

According to a statement issued by the Presidency Communications and signed by the Minister of Government Communications and Presidential Spokesperson, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, the President left Accra on Sunday, January 11, 2026.

His first stop is the United Kingdom, where he is scheduled to meet coordinators of the Accra Reset Initiative, a flagship policy framework designed to reposition Ghana’s economy, governance systems, and international outlook.

The Accra Reset is an Africa-led initiative, launched by Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama at the 2025 UN General Assembly, to overhaul global health and development governance, moving from aid dependency to national ownership, resilient coalitions, and pragmatic, outcomes-focused models for a turbulent world.

It emphasizes countries designing their own health strategies, innovative financing, diversifying risk, and building self-sustaining systems, using health as an anchor to drive systemic change across development sectors beyond the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Engagements with the coordinators of the initiative are expected to focus on aligning domestic reform priorities with international support mechanisms, technical expertise, and strategic partnerships.

Presidency sources indicate that the UK meetings will provide an opportunity for the President to review progress made under the initiative and to deepen collaboration with partners involved in its design and implementation.

The discussions are also expected to explore ways of mobilizing investment and policy support to accelerate the delivery of key reform programs linked to global health funding, infrastructure development, and innovative funding.

Participation in World Economic Forum Session

Following his engagements in the United Kingdom, President Mahama will travel to Davos, Switzerland, to participate in a session of the World Economic Forum.

The annual forum brings together global political leaders, business executives, development partners, and policy thinkers to discuss pressing global challenges and emerging economic trends.

Ghana’s participation is seen as part of efforts to reassert the country’s presence on the global economic stage and to articulate its reform agenda to an international audience.

At Davos, President Mahama is expected to contribute to discussions on global economic recovery, development financing, climate resilience, and the role of emerging economies in a rapidly changing global order.

His participation comes at a time when Ghana is seeking to consolidate recent gains in macroeconomic stability and attract long-term investment to support growth and job creation.

“President Mahama is also expected to hold bilateral meetings with some world leaders on the sidelines of the Davos Forum”.

Strengthening Diplomatic Ties

These engagements are expected to focus on strengthening diplomatic ties, expanding economic cooperation, and exploring opportunities for trade, investment, and development assistance.

Government officials say the bilateral meetings will also provide a platform for President Mahama to brief international partners on Ghana’s reform trajectory, including fiscal consolidation efforts, governance reforms, and initiatives aimed at improving the business environment.

The administration believes sustained international engagement is critical to reinforcing confidence in Ghana’s economic direction and unlocking new sources of support for development programmes.

The trip underscores the Mahama administration’s emphasis on economic diplomacy as a key pillar of governance. Since taking office, the President has consistently highlighted the need for Ghana to engage proactively with global institutions and partners, not only to address immediate economic challenges but also to secure long-term opportunities for growth and transformation.

The President’s presence at the World Economic Forum also carries symbolic significance, as it signals Ghana’s intention to remain an active participant in global economic conversations despite recent domestic economic difficulties.

Projecting Ghana’s Stability

By engaging directly with global leaders and investors, the administration hopes to project a narrative of stability, reform, and readiness for investment. The Presidency has not disclosed the full list of meetings scheduled for the trip, but officials stress that the engagements are aligned with Ghana’s national priorities under the reset agenda.

These include restoring economic confidence, improving governance and accountability, and positioning the country as a credible destination for sustainable investment. President Mahama is expected to return to the country after completing his engagements in Davos.

Government sources say the outcomes from the meetings will inform ongoing policy discussions and implementation efforts back home, particularly as the administration transitions from stabilization to the accelerated delivery of development programs.

The trip comes at a time when the government is intensifying efforts to translate policy reforms into tangible improvements in the lives of Ghanaians. By leveraging international platforms such as the World Economic Forum and deepening engagement with key partners, the administration aims to reinforce its commitment to resetting Ghana’s development path and securing broad-based prosperity.
