Ghanaian musician Bisa Kdei has shared insights into the inspiration and message behind his  newly released highlife-rap fusion track, Go N Look, featuring Medikal which dropped on April 10, 2026.

The song, already gaining traction across local party playlists, has been widely praised for its seamless blend of soulful highlife melodies and contemporary rap delivery. Its growing popularity reflects a renewed interest in genre fusion within Ghana’s music scene, particularly collaborations that bridge traditional and modern sounds.

Bisa Kdei, born Ronald Kwaku Dei Appiah, is widely regarded as one of Ghana’s leading highlife artistes. He rose to prominence in 2012 after becoming the first Ghanaian musician to achieve mainstream success through a movie soundtrack, notably Azonto Ghost. Prior to his solo success, he began his career in a music group known as BISA (Boys in Serious Action), before transitioning from rap to singing.

Speaking on the inspiration behind Go N Look, the highlife musician explained that the song was crafted to address societal pressures and the expectations placed on individuals.

“It carries a deeper message about life’s unpredictability.  It reminds you to trust your own judgement and choose what genuinely works for you instead of living by other people’s expectations, because one path does not fit all”

The message, he emphasised, is intended to resonate with listeners navigating personal and professional decisions, encouraging self-confidence and independence.

Medikal’s contribution to the track adds a contemporary edge, combining sharp lyricism with a rhythm that complements the highlife foundation of the song. Known for his distinctive wordplay and engaging delivery, the rapper’s verse reinforces the song’s central theme of self-belief while maintaining its appeal as a party anthem.

Critics have praised his performance, noting that he delivers a “powerful message with his usual wordplay,” making the song relatable to a younger demographic while retaining its broader message.

The collaboration highlights the growing synergy between highlife and hip-hop in Ghana, as artistes continue to experiment with sound while maintaining cultural authenticity.

Clarifying Industry Relationships

Amid the success of Go N Look, Bisa Kdei also addressed longstanding rumours regarding his relationship with Medikal. While confirming that the rapper stayed at his residence during the early stages of his career, he dismissed claims that he played a direct role in shaping Medikal’s rise.

“I would not take credit for the rapper’s success”, he clarified.

He added that he takes pride in Medikal’s growth and achievements, emphasising that each artiste’s journey is unique.

Beyond music, Bisa Kdei is using his platform to advocate for structural changes within Ghana’s music industry, particularly within the Ghana Music Rights Organization.

“If I am given the chance, I have a few things that I would want to change at GHAMRO.. the system is not really working for musicians.”

He cited personal experience to highlight the challenges within the royalty system, revealing that he once rejected a payment of GHC 500 for his hit songs “Mansa” and “Brother Brother”.

According to him, the incident underscores the need for a comprehensive overhaul of the system to ensure fair compensation for artistes.

His comments come at a time when GHAMRO has announced plans to publicly name and shame radio and television stations that fail to pay for music usage, a move aimed at strengthening compliance within the industry.

Sustaining Momentum on the Global Stage

On the performance front, Bisa Kdei continues to maintain a strong presence both locally and internationally. He recently headlined the sold-out Bel Ice Party Live Edition at the Greenwood Event Centre on April 3, 2026, delivering what fans described as a night of “pure highlife magic.”

The artiste remains in high demand across markets in the United Kingdom and the United States, reflecting his growing international appeal. While a formal global tour has not yet been announced, his recent activities suggest preparations for a broader international run.

As Go N Look continues to gain momentum across streaming platforms, the collaboration stands as both a musical success and a statement on individuality, reinforcing themes of self-reliance and personal direction.

The release further underscores the evolving landscape of Ghanaian music, where traditional sounds and modern influences continue to intersect, shaping the industry’s global narrative.
