Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Solomon Agbasi has reportedly rejected a contract extension offer from the club, throwing his future into uncertainty amid growing interest from Ghana Premier League champions Medeama SC.
According to sources close to the negotiations, Agbasi and his representatives have turned down Hearts of Oak’s proposal of GH₵10,000 per month on a three-year deal.
Talks between both parties are believed to have stalled, with no breakthrough reached despite efforts from the club to keep the highly-rated shot stopper.
The development has opened the door for Medeama SC, who are keen on signing the goalkeeper ahead of their upcoming continental campaign. The Tarkwa-based side are said to be ready to meet the player’s financial demands as they seek to strengthen their squad ahead of their participation in the CAF Champions League next season.
Agbasi’s rising stock in Ghanaian football has made him one of the most talked-about goalkeepers in the country, especially following his recent involvement with the senior national team setup.
Black Stars Recognition Raises Agbasi’s Profile
The 25-year-old is currently in the Black Stars camp preparing for Ghana’s pre-World Cup friendly against Wales on Tuesday, June 2, in Cardiff.
His inclusion in camp follows a string of impressive performances at club. Agbasi earned his first senior appearance for Ghana in the Black Stars’ 2-0 defeat to Mexico last week.
He came on in the 75th minute to replace his Hearts of Oak teammate and first-choice goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.
Although he remains deputy to Asare at club level, Agbasi has continued to impress whenever called upon.
His performances caught the attention of the Black Stars technical team led by head coach Carlos Queiroz, earning him a place among the five goalkeepers currently training with the national team.
That number is expected to be reduced to three when the final squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup is announced on June 1, but many observers believe Agbasi has given himself a strong chance of making the cut.
The former Dreams FC goalkeeper has also impressed during training sessions in camp at the Dragon Park in Cardiff, with some fans and pundits already calling for his long-term inclusion in the national team setup ahead of the Mundial.

Despite not being Hearts of Oak’s first-choice goalkeeper, Agbasi played a significant role in the club’s solid defensive record during the just ended Ghana Premier League season.
He kept 10 clean sheets out of the 24 recorded by Hearts of Oak throughout the campaign, underlining his importance to the team whenever selected.
His consistency and reflexes have earned praise from supporters and coaches, especially considering the limited number of matches he played compared to captain Benjamin Asare.
Continental Experience for Agbasi
Before his time with Hearts of Oak, Agbasi also enjoyed a memorable run with Dreams FC during the 2023-24 CAF Confederation Cup campaign. He was the goalkeeper as Dreams FC reached the semi-finals of the competition in their maiden appearance, making history in the process.
“The Still Believe” side became the first Ghanaian club to reach the semi-finals of a major African interclub competition since Hearts of Oak and Asante Kotoko both reached the final of the inaugural CAF Confederation Cup in 2004, with Hearts eventually lifting the trophy.
That continental experience, coupled with his growing confidence and national team exposure, has increased Agbasi’s value on the local market and attracted interest from clubs looking for reliable goalkeeping options.
With negotiations at Hearts of Oak currently at a standstill and Medeama SC pushing strongly for his signature, Agbasi now faces a major decision over the next step in his career.
