Tottenham Agree Deal To Sign Marmoush on Season-long Loan

Tottenham Hotspur have agreed a deal to sign Manchester City forward Omar Marmoush on loan for the 2026-27 season with an obligation to make the move permanent for a reported £60 million next summer.

The Egypt international will become Tottenham’s eighth signing of the summer, further underlining the scale of the rebuilding project underway under manager Roberto De Zerbi.

Upon official confirmation of the move, Marmoush will follow the arrivals of Sandro Tonali from Newcastle United, Matheus Fernandes from West Ham United, Savinho from Manchester City and Jan Paul van Hecke from Brighton. Defenders Marcos Senesi, Andy Robertson and goalkeeper Martin Dubravka have also joined as free agents after leaving Bournemouth, Liverpool and Burnley respectively.

The Egyptian’s proposed move comes just days after Savinho completed his switch from City to Spurs, with the north London club strengthening their attacking options.

Spurs lost their opening game of the Premier League 3-0 to Brentford at the Brentford Community Stadium and that result has necessitated moves for the Manchester City pair.

Marmoush is expected to undergo a medical before completing the transfer. The reported structure would see Tottenham initially take the 27-year-old on loan before being required to complete a permanent £60m purchase if the agreed conditions are met.

The forward joined City from Eintracht Frankfurt for around £59m in January 2025 after an impressive spell in the Bundesliga. However, he struggled to establish himself as a regular starter at the Etihad Stadium, with Erling Haaland firmly occupying the central striking position.

Marmoush has scored 16 goals in 62 appearances for City across all competitions, but his opportunities diminished last season. He started only eight Premier League matches, finishing the campaign with three goals and three assists.

He came on as a second-half substitute during City’s 3-0 Community Shield defeat by Arsenal before remaining on the bench for their opening Premier League victory over Bournemouth.

Marmoush Offers De Zerbi Tactical Flexibility

Tottenham’s interest goes beyond the Egyptian’s goalscoring ability. His versatility could make him particularly valuable to De Zerbi, whose attacking approach demands movement and positional interchange.

Although Marmoush is primarily a number nine, his career has seen him operate from the left, as a second striker and in other attacking positions. That flexibility gives De Zerbi the option of changing the shape of his frontline without necessarily making a substitution.

At Frankfurt, Marmoush frequently operated through the middle, while City have similarly used him predominantly as a central attacker but also from the flank and behind another forward.

His ability to drop towards the ball before attacking space could fit naturally into De Zerbi’s system, potentially giving Tottenham another route through defensive blocks.

The move also provides valuable depth in an area where Tottenham have faced concerns. Dominic Solanke has endured recurring injury problems, while Richarlison is entering the final year of his contract.

Marmoush Given Chance for a Fresh Start

For Manchester City, allowing Marmoush to leave could be viewed as a pragmatic solution after the Egyptian failed to secure a consistent role.

His scoring numbers suggest that poor finishing was not necessarily the main issue. Marmoush’s 3.53 expected-goals figure in the Premier League last season was close to his actual total of three goals.

Instead, limited minutes and competition for places restricted his influence.

Tottenham’s willingness to commit £60m to the eventual transfer indicates they believe regular football can restore the form that made Marmoush one of Europe’s most sought-after forwards at Frankfurt.

The arrangement also gives Spurs an opportunity to integrate him before making the full financial commitment, while City could eventually recover a substantial portion of their original investment.

More importantly, Marmoush’s arrival completes another significant step in Tottenham’s aggressive summer recruitment campaign. With seven additions already through the door, the Egyptian would become the eighth piece of a squad being reshaped considerably under De Zerbi.

For Marmoush, however, the transfer represents more than another big move. It is an opportunity to escape the shadow of Haaland, secure regular Premier League football and demonstrate that the qualities that attracted City to him in the first place remain intact.
