Our security architecture is apt- Adib Saani

Security Analyst, Adib Saani

Security Analyst, Adib Saani, has disclosed that the Ejura report and the issue of Kaaka’s death should not be politicized. He stated that the issue is not a political one but rather one that is to help find ways the families will get justice rather than just constricting it all to politics.

Mr. Saani averred that going forward,;the government must as a matter of fact implement the recommendations made by the committee;and even go a step further to address some of the issues that have not been mentioned in the recommendation. This, he said,;includes punitive measure against the Ashanti Regional minister and investigation into the death of the two other persons so that,;whoever is found culpable will be brought to book and the family be given the justice they desire.

“The issue of Kaaka’s death shouldn’t be politicized. I mean there is nothing political about this and trying to politicize will be tantamount to creating a storm in a tea cup. This is quite straight forward and this is a very unfortunate incident that happened leading to some lives lost and the last disservice we will wish to do to the families of the victims and of course the ongoing investigation into the killing of Kaaka will be to politicize it.”

Touching on if Kaaka’s family has been truly influenced to come out with allegation,; he expressed doubt and further stated that he will be shocked;if government didn’t meet with the family before the announcement of the report or before its release. He suggested government should have met with the family before the report’s release to give further clarification.

“Looking at how sensitive the whole issue is,;the right thing to have been done by the government would have been to sit at a round table with the family, get them to know what the findings are and of course get them to understand. You have a statement which is subject to all forms of interpretations but if they get to understand from the official source,;that would have reduced the tension. Unfortunately,;I doubt that has happened because just yesterday,;I spoke with a number of persons on the ground in Ejura and they still don’t seem to be happy about the findings.”

Adib Saani said the lack of communication between the committee and the family; could raise further suspicion especially on government’s commitment to ensuring that the killers of Kaaka are brought to book. He also indicated that another issue is with the two other persons who died during the protest. He stated that it looks like they have been forgotten and described the situation as unfortunate. Mr. Saani intimated their families are also crying for justice and as such government needs to also consider investigations into those two other persons.
