The Ghana Pentecostal and Charismatic Council (GPCC) has disclosed that the motion of the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values 2021 bill is viewed by the Council as one which is trying to customize the values of Ghanaians.

According to the Council, the country is being “inundated” with all forms of foreign values and as such they reckon the bill as a very bold attempt to “dissociate Ghana” from such menace.

Speaking on behalf of the Council at the ongoing public hearing on the Proper Human Sexuality and Ghanaian Family Values Bill currently before parliament, Apostle Ofori revealed that the bill is a proactive step to “give impetus” to certain aspect of our criminal law.

Following this, Apostle Ofori indicated that the bill also seeks to deny LGBTQI the “technological oxygen” to fuel the flames of a “possible wildfire that might obliterate the foundations of our cherished norms and values which makes us Ghanaians”.

“We see the bill as trying to customize our distinct values as a people. We are creating a situation that will preserve the sanctity of our time-honoured values as a nation which is free from foreign corruption. We also see that the bill also seeks to protect the pristine Ghanaian norms and value system and prevent the use of modern technology, as the case might be, to muddy the waters”.

Apostle Ofori

The Council’s spokesperson noted that he is very much aware of the fact that parliament is expected to “mirror the broad opinions” of its constituents. As such, where appropriate, he reckons that parliament will serve as a vehicle to satisfy the interests of the people whose mandate they’re representing.

“With the motion of the Proper Human Sexual Rights and Ghanaian Family Values 2021 bill, it’s seen as very critical to the work of this 8th parliament of the 4th Republic. We are of the firm belief that the passing of this bill into law… will give eloquent expression to the sovereign will of the majority of the people who parliament represents”.

Apostle Ofori

Touching on the constitutional and legislative framework of the country, Apostle Ofori insisted that the bill is a bold attempt to “consolidate” the framework. He stressed that the criminal offences Act of 1962 act (29) has “done very well” in that regard as it has served this nation“over the past number of years”.

“Under that act, we see section 104 which criminalizes unnatural carnal knowledge… This seeks to address the peculiar challenges which faced society in those days. But we should understand that this is a different generation… and because of that, naturally, there have come certain lacuna in Act 29 which we believe that this bill can very well address”.

Apostle Ofori

Describing the “expansive” scope of LGBTQI, Apostle Ofori disclosed that the LGBTQI is more or less like a “hamper with assorted items” in it. This, he noted, is being subject to “imitations” of what is deemed as unnatural carnal knowledge which he believes has “spawned” the fraternity.
