The board of directors of Kumasi Asante Kotoko has unveiled Nana Yaw Amponsah as the new Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for the club at a press conference.
His position was announced publicly to supporters and other stakeholders of the club in Kumasi by the spokesman for the board, Mr Kwadwo Boateng Gyamfi. Mr. Gyamfi further disclosed that Nana Yaw Amponsah had the backing of the Asantehene.
“After a successful interview session, Nana Yaw was chosen and he has the full blessings of the live patron of the club, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II,” he said.
Nana Yaw Amponsah will take over from board member Joseph Yaw Adu who has been acting as the interim CEO for the past months. The African giants have been without a CEO for the past few months as a result of the constitution of its board of directors when the management team was dissolved. Nana Yaw Amponsah’s appointment has raised hopes and expectations among the rank and file of the club as he has one of the finest football brains in the country.
Clad in the club’s traditional red jersey and flanked by the bigwigs of Kotoko, an elated Nana Yaw expressed appreciation to Otumfuo and those who brought him to power. He also called for their support to build a strong foundation and “present an edifice that will last generations.”
“Kotoko is bigger than the New Patriotic Party and the National Democratic Congress or any political party. I, therefore, urge you to give me double the support you give to your political parties for me to succeed,”

Nana Yaw further promised among other things to use football to create employment and elevate the Asanteman. The former FIFA intermediary has been given a three year contract and will be tasked with coming up with policies to actualize the vision of the club’s board of directors.
Nana Yaw Amponsah was the Chairman of Division One Club, Phar Rangers FC and also a licensed players’ agent/intermediary from 2008 to 2018. He resigned from his position at the club ahead of his impending move to Kotoko. His specialties include the Commercial Aspects of Sports, Sports and Ethics, Sports Governance, Representing the Athlete/Player and Sports Regulatory Regimes & Sports Rights, and ambush marketing.
Ashanti Regional Supporters Group Chairman of Asante Kotoko, Mr. Obeng Sekyere advised the new CEO to build a relationship with the supporters of the club to ensure the success of the club.
“I’m expecting Nana Yaw Amponsah to get closer and engage the supporters in his doings. We the supporters are hoping to have a good working relationship with him to help improve Kotoko. Looking at the past CEO’s, you could always see a fully packed stadium whenever Kotoko had a game. The strategy was that they got closer to the supporters.”
Nana Yaw Amponsah is expected to see to the completion of the construction of a world class training and hostel facility at Adako Jachie which will undoubtedly elevate the team to greater heights.
