Gospel Musician, Francis Amo

Gospel musician, Francis Amo, has averred that highlife artist, Ofori Amponsah, is “looking for trouble” in reaction to some disparaging comments made by the highlife musician.

In a recent interview, Ofori Amponsah opined that most gospel musicians in Ghana produce “foolish songs”. According to the ‘Alewa’ hitmaker, gospel musicians are to inspire people, however, they feed their consumers with “sorrowful songs”.

Francis Amo, in reaction, noted that maybe, Ofori Amponsah made such comments to create some sort of controversies in order to gain attention and revive his career.

The popular gospel musician averred that Ofori Amponsah has the right to criticize his fellow artists; however, Francis cautioned Ofori Amponsah to be very mindful of his comments because such utterances have dire consequences.

“The Bible tells us not to judge so I can’t judge him [Ofori Amponsah]. There are things in the realm of the spirit, if you do, you bring curses on your family and your generations. He’s looking for trouble for his family because of this statement”.

Francis Amo, further speaking on the issue, emphasized the need for Ofori Amponsah to respect the genre of music Francis described as being “sacred“.

“Gospel music is sacred and must be accorded with the respect it deserves. The likes of Elder Mireku and Apostle Paul Oko Hackman’s works, Ofori termed as stupid songs, have healed and inspired lots of people. He is ignorant of things of the spirit”.

Ofori Amponsah Criticizes Gospel Artists

Ofori Amponsah, in a recent interview, fired shots at some Ghanaian gospel artists for making, “foolish” and “stupid” songs in his opinion.

Ofori Amponsah, who along the line of his music career turned into a pastor, averred that his secular songs inspire more than some supposed gospel musicians in Ghana.

“The first thing God created was love, so if I am not able to satisfy my lover musically, how can I satisfy God, who I’ve never seen. If I sing sorrowful songs, what does the listener gain from them? Yesterday I was saying most of the gospel songs they do are stupid”.

Ofori Amponsah

According to the ‘Rakia’ hitmaker, a lot of the acclaimed gospel musicians lack the content when it comes to the word of God. He further claimed that most of their songs are not gospel since “they are only doing foolish songs”.

Touching further on the issue, Ofori Amponsah then boldly stated “I can confidently tell you I even preach better than a lot of the pastors in Ghana”.

He released his first album with Owusek Productions in 2001, titled ‘Asew’, which had eight tracks, plus a bonus instrumental of the song ‘Asew’. He later released the albums ‘Meprawo’ and ‘Rakia’ in 2002 and 2004 respectively.
