Best Rap Performance awardee, Lyrical Joe (LJ), has stated that he didn’t vote massively with his life savings to win at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA).
Lyrical Joe explaining how he bagged the award for the Best Rap Performance, noted that the winner of the category was decided by a technical board and not by only votes.
“The VGMA board this year, with this particular category it wasn’t much about voting, it was decided by the technical board who knows the criteria”, Lyrical Joe explained.
According to the rapper, “with this one you can’t bribe anybody, you can’t persuade anyone and you can’t vote massively to win the Best Rap performer at this year’s VGMA”.
Lyrical Joe won Best Rap Performance at this year’s VGMA with his ‘5th August’ song, beating off competition from some big names in the industry like Sarkodie, Strongman, Obibini, Amerado, and Teephlow. However, after Lyrical Joe won the award, there was a section of rap enthusiasts, who weren’t excited about it. According to them, Amerado should have been the winner. Some even started circulating rumors on social media that “Lyrical Joe is broke” because he used his entire life savings in voting massively to win the award.
LJ Clarifies ‘Amerado Diss Track’
It has been suggested that Lyrical Joe and Amerado have started a lyrical ‘beef’. Lyrical Joe recently broke the internet after he was spotted in a video, throwing subliminal jabs at an artist, believed to be Amerado.
Clarifying the issue about the viral video, the ‘Tina’ crooner averred that he was only responding to a question in an interview and decided to rap, however, he hasn’t gone to the studio to record any diss song.
“I didn’t bring a diss song. Where is the song on streaming platforms for people to download? I have not put anything on my social media platforms, I have not posted it, neither have I dropped any song,” Lyrical Joe said.
Lyrical Joe also expressed delight with his steady progress in the music industry, having started his musical journey more than eight years ago. He noted that his steady rise to the top of Ghanaian rap music had been challenging, especially with his style, but was delighted that Ghanaians are gradually accepting him.
“I am really happy that Ghanaians are tuning to enjoy my style. We have come very far to win this award, and it shows how bright the future is and fans should expect more fire,” Lyrical Joe said.
Lyrical Joe further noted that he hopes to get more collaborations in the near future, as well as release more songs for his fans.
The rap sensation is currently promoting his new single ‘Win Win’ featuring Kelyvnboy which is available across various streaming platforms.
