Fast Fast & Furious star, Tyrese Gibson, has been slapped with $10, 000 monthly in child support when he appeared in court over his divorce from Samantha Lee Gibson.

Tyrese took the stand during a hearing to finalize parenting plans with his ex, with whom he shares 3-year-old daughter, Soraya. In a courtroom video, Tyrese was admonished by a judge for making an unfriendly comment at Samantha’s lawyer after he was questioned about his finances as part of the divorce proceedings.

Tyrese stated that: “I don’t do the CFO thing. Here’s a question to you, smart person…”, prompting the judge to cut him off. The judge chided the 43-year-old, telling him: “If you do it again, I’m going to hold you in contempt. You don’t ask questions. That’s not how this works!”

Tyrese was subsequently ordered to pay Samantha around $10,000 a month in child support, per courtroom footage posted to YouTube by Hip Hop Enquirer magazine.  He’s also required to maintain his health insurance policy.

The judge, during the hearing, addressed Tyrese saying the judgement “is not a punishment for you”.

“Put that money where it belongs, in the child. … I want you both to love your kid, and I want you both to tell your kid to love the other parent, because that’s how we get successful human beings. Nobody won here and nobody lost. The kid lost, because she doesn’t have her parents together. Minimize the effects of that loss. Minimize it in every way, shape and form you can.”

Samantha files for divorce

The courtroom hearing comes nearly two years after Samantha first filed for divorce from Tyrese. According to court records, the social worker submitted her complaint for divorce in September 2020.

The duo later confirmed their split with a joint statement in which they described the breakup as “a painful and significant development in our lives”. The Fast & Furious star and his wife of four years announced their split in a joint statement on Dec. 29, 2020.

They both revealed that: “Our intention is to remain the best of friends & strong co-parents. We feel incredibly blessed to have found each other and deeply grateful for the 4 years we have been married to each other. Our journey together has been a ride of both ups & downs, but it’s a journey that neither of us would have chosen to take with anyone else”.

Tyrese and Samantha tied the knot during an intimate ceremony held on Valentine’s Day in 2017. Tyrese made the exciting announcement, sharing to Instagram a romantic montage featuring photos from his wedding day to a mystery woman.

In the slideshow, Tyrese penned: “They say a happy wife equals a happy life” which plays out alongside photos of Gibson in a black and white tuxedo and his blushing bride in a light pink halter gown with an elaborate diamond crown perched on her head.

He captioned the video: “Mark 10:8 and the two will become #OneFlesh Mr & Mrs Gibson…”

Tyrese was previously married to Norma Gibson for two years up until 2009. The two co-parent an 8-year-old daughter together.
