Member of Parliament for Ningo-Prampram Constituency, Hon Samuel Nartey George has said that the current economic crises the country is facing, is as a result of the poor fiscal policies of the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

He indicated that the economic calamity Ghana is experiencing, which includes the rapid depreciation of the local currency against the US dollars is not as a result the Russia-Ukraine war and Covid 19 as the government claims.

“Like the IMF has said after seeing our books in Washington during our last meeting, the problem is as a result of the poor physical policies of the NPP government.”

Samuel Nartey George

He stated that the government must stop blaming Former President, John Dramani Mahama, for its inability to come out with mechanisms and solutions to curb the situation. He mentioned that the Akuffo Addo’s led government after five years in power still point fingers at the former President and his party when they are asked questions related to the crises.

“Under Former President Mahama the dollar was changed at 2.9 and now it is 15, and you tell me it is John Mahama who created this problem for you. He should stop saying that.”

Samuel Nartey George

Speaking on the “Good Morning” show today October 21, Mr.Nartey further stated that the political tour to the 16 regions by the President at the moment is not needed as Ghanaians want solution to the situation at hand. He added that the President must address Ghanaians as he uses to do during the covid 19 era.

“When we didn’t invite him, he came to our homes. He is the President, and he must show leadership today. Why hasn’t the President addressed the nation?’’

“Even if he won’t have the decency to resign, he should just come and say something to Ghanaians.”

Bawumia Not Different from Menzgold

The Member of Parliament in his submission stated that the Vice President, Mahamadu Bawumia, has shown clear incompetence as the head of economic management team.

He added that the Vice President has failed Ghanaians as he is doing the opposite of what he promised Ghanaians.

“You’ve gone to take a scammed artist and you’ve made him the head of our Economic Management Team. He is an absolute scammer. He is not different from Menzgold.”

Samuel Nartey George

Mr Nartey expressed great dissapointment in the Vice President for not fulfiling his promise of making the economy of Ghana better during his campaign speeches on various platforms years back.

The high cost of living, the increase in prices of goods and services , high inflation and VAT rates in addition to the rapid cedi depreciation have raised a lot of controversies in the economic and political discourse of the country in the last months. Though government is currently negotiating with the International Monetary Fund(IMF) to find solutions to the crisis, that is yet to materialize.
