Fuel Prices: I’ve Parked My V8; I Can’t Spend GHS 2, 000 Each Week – Ngleshie-Amanfrom MP

Member of Parliament (MP) for Bortianor Ngleshie Amanfrom, Sylvester Tetteh, has bitterly complained about the increases in fuel prices.

Fuel prices keep hiking up, affecting almost all the other sectors of the economy. Commodity prices and transport fares have all shot up as a result of the unstable fluctuations in the prices of petrol.

Speaking in a media interview, Hon. Sylvester Tetteh stated that, even as a Parliamentarian, he is greatly affected by the fuel prices, that has led him to park his car.

According to him, he has been spending about GHC 2, 000 to fuel his V8 vehicle but can no longer do that again.

“I have parked my V8 and using my mother’s car, I cant afford the petrol prices. With V8 I buy GHC 2, 000 petrol every week. It means every month, I spend GHC 8,000 just on petrol.”

The lawmaker disclosed that his salary cannot cover the weekly expense on fuel hence his decision to park the car.

His comments are as a results of the rapid increament in petroleum products, which has remained unstabled for some months now. This has litterally affected transport fares as well.

Currently, petrol and diesel are selling at GH¢18 and GH¢23.49 per litre respectively at various pumps across the country, with commercial drivers and the general public lamenting the impact on the general cost of living.

I’m Not Too Sure There Will Be Reduction In fuel Prices Anytime Soon

Meanwhile, the Executive Secretary Of The Chamber of Petroleum Consumers(COPEC), Mr Duncan Amoah has noted that he is not too sure there will be a reduction in fuel prices anytime soon.

In an interveiw Today, November 10, Mr Duncan disclosed that according to an update he had yesterday, November 9, clearly shows that petrol would have gone up while diesel would have reduced if there were to be new prices today.

On prices for petroleum products per recent data gathered, Duncan Amoah said petrol would have had an upward adjustment, while diesel would have stabilized or reduced by GH¢1.

According to him, the international oil price benchmarks have also increased as at November 9, 2022. He also stated that the cedi keeps depreciating which is one of the contributing factors of the hike in petroluem products.

He however mentioned that COPEC will continue to monitor developments within the sector in the ensuing days but insisted, at present, the reduction was impossible.

Prices of diesel and petrol have been on the increase since the beginning of this year.

COPEC has for that matter advised the Government to fall back on profits from its crude oil sales to cushion Ghanaians against soaring fuel prices.
